# Washing the toys So, I was washing the kongs in the dishwasher, which I only do maybe every 4 weeks. When I openned the dishwasher back up, I expected everything to be spic and span thanks to the modern miracle of electricity and indoor plumbing. Oh no, the dishes were covered with shiba hair and the nylabones had old dish food wedged into all the teeth holes. Anyone want to come over for lunch? My question to the peanut gallery is, how often do you wash your dog toys? By hand or by dishwasher? What about the surviving stuffed toys? ## MommyofNiko · 2008-12-12T10:30:59.000Z HAHAHA!! Someone is going to enjoy those nylabones! I guess I am terrible! I dont really wash them (hangs head in shame). I'm just gonna go out and buy new toys every time the old ones get dirty. No more dishes in the dishwasher next time I wash the toys. I like nature's miracle but the dogs don't; it undoes their hard work in a matter of seconds. ## sunyata · 2008-12-12T12:03:01.000Z I throw the rope bones in the laundry about once a month, and the kong gets a bath after every use, but I hand wash it. Nylabones never make it long enough to need to be washed in my house. I am going to have to look into the Nature's Miracle laundry soap. Actually I will hand wash and rise and then sometimes I boil old ones and ones for training in chicken broth to revive them. The furry ones get dismantled quickly by the dogs and unless I get ambitious and the items are too spitty, only then do I wash those. After washing I notice they don't have the same attraction though....all the dogs seem to like best the "spittified" ones (LOL). They do prefer the more aged chewing bones. I can fill them with their favorite food and they just don't care. They love their other rubber toys, especially the cuz toys, and the simply fido organic dolls they love. They even get to play with them more than once before they are completely destroyed. They never get washed because they don't live that long.
