# Are dogs effected by altitude?

All our pups have been pretty out of it since we moved to Taos - they sleep a lot. Where we lived before was just a few hundred feet above sea level - but now we are 7100 feet above sea level.

Im sure the changes, the trip and everything has already affected them.  Your monsters will get back to normal once they adjust.

I have for me - went for a run w/ the pups and it about killed me. lol

The dogs seem to slow down faster too - Hilo was REALLY lethargic one day, it freaked us out - he is fine now tho... but I think that was the altitude.

Our vet confirmed that it will take about 6 weeks for us and the dogs to get adjusted.

When I was about 16 I went hiking in the Rockies in New Mexico, one of the guys in my group got really bad alltitude sickness, that is not fun to deal with.  I can imagine living at that elevation would certainly take awhile to adjust too.

Did you talk to a mechanic to see if you needed to get your car adjusted for the new heights it will be running at?

I didn't talk to anyone about my car - i figured it would not run as well tho. The cold weather is more of an issue than the altitude I think. My car is not doing great since the move tho - my ABS light is on right now. We had to take Jen's car to Aspen (where I am right now).

We are going to be in ATL in a few days - I'm stoked to see if I feel super human due to the low altitude.  :c)

We have 2 Shikoku (Loa & Ahi), 2 Shiba (Maui & Kaia), 1 Akita (Hilo), and we will have 1 Kai Ken soon.

So 4 breeds - 6 dogs.
