# Diet change during teething? Joey has been getting his adult teethe over the past few weeks and I've noticed he has stopped chewing his food. It has caused him to choke on it once or twice (I watch him very closely when he eats). Should I be feeding him wet food or something else while he's teething and has soar gums? ## Ryu · 2008-06-14T18:16:30.000Z at least he's eating :-) Ryu quit eating altogether and I freaked out thinking he needed a different kind of food ($$$ down the drain, I later found out)... I added some wet food with lots of gravy mixed in (more liquidy than the canned food) that Nutro makes (I think it's Ultra puppy) and that was all he wanted to eat....Maybe you could add some water to his kibble and warm it up so it makes a gravy? Poor Joey :-( ## tsukitsune (moderator) · 2008-06-14T18:45:06.000Z we didn't change Tsuki's diet, but we did begin to allow her to gnaw on frozen beef shank bones (or any large, tough bone with some meat on it) it was very useful in getting rid of the baby teeth. It relieved her urge to chew on everything in sight and kept her pleasantly occupied. Plus when you give it frozen, you rid the harmful bacteria and the frozen bone has a soothing effect on the aching gums and emerging teeth. Good luck! ## Leonberger (admin) · 2008-06-14T20:47:03.000Z I'm adding the peanut oil for a while, that seems to soften up the kibble a bit, adding to its job as the bloat prevention tip from Michael. I also mix canned tuna in brine, for enhanced flavour and aroma, it opens up his appetite and also helps soften the kibble. Although I didn't start doing this to help with teething, it seems to help. He's also getting some frozen apple and banana puree (baby food) that he loves and seems to give him some relief. Frozen rope toys help too, and so does a bit of those gels used to sooth babies while teething.
