# Dilemma on Dog Bite My gentle Jazz has bit my nephew. My brother just called me to tell me about it. Jazz was sleeping on my bed, Michael went in, pounced on the bed really close to her, startled her, and she snapped him in the face. My brother just called me to tell me about it. Jazz was sleeping on my bed, Michael went in, pounced on the bed really close to her, startled her, and she snapped him in the face. My brother tells me that it was above his eye - he can see 2 very small puncture marks from Jazz's canine teeth and that's it. He has cleaned the marks (he said there was maybe 2 drops of blood on one mark and none on the other) and put wound care on it, has it iced down, and is watching it. Steve doesn't feel it warrants a trip to the doctor, but Michael goes to his mom's this weekend. Steve said he plans to call her about it and he doesn't feel it will be an issue as Michael has been bit before by her mom's dog. If your brother is cool with it, and he doesn't need to go to the hospital things should be ok. Maybe his Mom might call and ream you out? Although I (and I'm sure everyone here) understand where it came from, most people won't. I don't know the people involved, nor the laws around there, so I can't be of much help. But I've seen the pics you posted of Jazz interacting with humans and I refuse to believe that she would do such a thing out of nowhere, which isn't even the case here. I'm hoping this will be a big lesson to him. I'm not sure about my ex-sister-in-law. We didn't get along when we were in school together, much less when she married my brother. It all depends on her mood - I'll know more when I can see the place on his face to know whether I should be that concerned. When Steve first called me, I was imagining a skin flap, etc. Jazz is a sweet soul, but she mos def doesn't view Michael as being higher than her in the family pack. Kids make some dogs uncomfortable and bam - you've got a bite from an otherwise great dog. definitely make sure you have all of Jazz's UTD records on hand in case the news isn't taken all that well with the ex! And talk to that boy!! Maybe now that this has happened he will be ready to learn his lesson! How old is Michael? This past weekend I gave my 'be respectful to a dog or get a band aid' lecture to my 5 year old godson who did very well with our newest scaredy shiba dog. ## ljowen123 (moderator) · 2008-05-28T17:05:28.000Z I told Steve to go ahead and pull Jazz most recent records from her binder and make copies. This way, if necessary, I'll have them on hand. Michael is 9 and has trouble remembering/focusing. We can go over things multiple times, but... For now, Michael is banned from my room. While that's where Jazz is, it's also where the largest TV and the laptop is - according to Steve, Michael understands (at the moment) that Jazz reacted to the situation naturally and not because Jazz doesn't like Michael. I'm grateful that my brother is a calm one and not prone to freaking out about stuff. Michael has had the talk before - one of the reasons (size) we went with a shiba had to do with Michael. He has a fear of large dogs and I wanted to help him overcome the fear. He once ran from my youngest brother's dogs (Doberman, Spitz, and Samoyed) and they pinned him. Talking with Michael about what happened & how it happened & why it happened. The marks on Michael's face aren't too bad, but they are a little deeper than what my brother described. This morning there was just a little bit of bruising (logical - there are a lot of blood vessels around the eyes), but no swelling, puffiness, or tenderness. Jazz seemed very depressed when I got home - she lifted her tail, but no wagging. By the end of the night, she was still not her usual self but was better. She wants to give her own opinion about whether he should go on to the doctor, but can't be bothered about it until Friday afternoon (when she picks him up for his normal visitation). By then, I'm hoping the slight bruising will be mostly gone. She reacts to some things way over the top and others as though they are insignificant. Miss Jazzy knew that something went terribly wrong but certainly glad she is back to her Jazzy self. That's a positive. Sounds like if the Ex wanted to make a big deal out of it, she would have drove immediately to pick him up and/or drop by to see for herself. The ex will make just as big of a deal on Friday - if she decides to put on a show. I have long learned not to make assumptions on how she will react to different situations.
