So what's your exercise routine for your pups?

Also, how would you exercise your dogs if you couldn't walk?  I've mentioned that I have symohysis pubis dysfunction, which seriously limits my mobility (and will until 6 weeks after I give birth) so I haven't really been able to walk the dogs.  The few days I have tried, I have spent the rest of the day in bed unable to move.  I used to walk around my property with the pups off leash and they'd follow me.

Lately, I've just been going outside with them and standing there and watching them run around and then going back inside when they're done.  What would you do?  We don't have a fenced yard, but I do live on 160 acres in the middle of nowhere where there is very little traffic (maybe 1-2 trucks drive by per day) and all my neighbours are wheat fields.

Make your husband do it .  I try to get out every day for a 45 min walk with all 3, but it's been bitterly cold here with lots of snow, and it's not safe really for me to walk them in this weather all by myself.  I go to rally and flyball classes 1-2 times per week which ends up being about 6 hours altogether between both days.

You could have Noah put up a zip line for them to run back and forth on, I used to have one of those and would play fetch with Taj, well not really fetch, she would run down and grab the toy and stare at me with it in her mouth and refuse to bring it back.  And you can leave them out for a little bit on it, they exercise themselves, running after leaves and imaginary objects they think are rabbits.  You could cut their food back a tiny bit due to the decrease in exercise.  You could get some Tug-A-Jugs and fill those with their kibble so it takes them longer to eat and they have to work for it.  It takes News like 45 mins to clean one of those out.  When a dog is using his nose to sniff things out, they are expending tons of energy.  My Schutzhund trainer told me the most draining part of the sport is the tracking for the dog, not the bite work or the obedience.

you should get a wheel chair and have them pull you in it

When Gen was still around he got an hour walk in the morning, hour walk at night. He also got walks during the day if I was bored with nothing else to do lol. When we get our dogs again we plan on doing the same thing with adding a dog park into the mix 2-3 times a week.

I'd get them interactive toys which required some form of movement. Something like what Kelly suggested. The good thing about you having multiple dogs is that they usually play with themselves.

We walk about 20 minutes in the morning. 40-60 minutes in the afternoon and 30 minutes or so in the evening.  A couple of trips to the dog park per week also.

Yesterday he didn't get walked much, the high was -2.  Today the high is going to be 6, so we wont be out that long today either.  He gets a bit wild, but he doesn't like to be outside either.  Tomorrow it is going to be like 17 or something, we should be able to get a decent afternoon walk in.

Thanks for the tips, folks.  I think I'll pick up some tennis balls for fetch.  I don't want to use their nice rubber ball because I know they won't always bring it back and I'm in no way to go looking for the balls they drop!  Other than that, I think my routine isn't working too bad.  Rakka and Tojo exercise each other by chasing each other around a lot.  I was worried more at first, but I haven't noticed any frustrated or bored behaviour inside the house, so I suppose they're fine.

Loki is more the problem since he just stands there and stares at me like, "So... when's our walk?"  Unfortunately, Loki won't play fetch or tug or anything.  He's kind of an old fart, but I guess I'll let him get away with it for being a senior citizen.

I walk them daily for 45 minutes total. When its cool or cold out, I put on their backpacks and put a water bottle in the pouch on each side. If I can't get out for the day, or if they are just too rambunctious, I put them on the treadmill for 15-25 minutes. Mika goes on at a 3.5 - 4.0 speed, Keigo goes on at no quicker than 3.5. Usually around 3.0.

I am considering agility classes for Mika. I think she would be really great at it.
