Anyway... I don't know what is available in Canada, but there are a couple good & trustyworthy companies around that have premade raw. Nature's Variety, The Honest Kitchen, Bravo, Primal, Aunt Jenni's, and Northwest Naturals are the ones I consistently see on other boards and rated well. I feed my two dogs a mix of Bravo and Honest Kitchen Embark (Embark is the one recommended for puppies and adults alike). I buy the Bravo without the veggies in it since Embark already contains plenty. To that, I add SeaPet w/vitamin E fish oil, a capsule of NOW brand 4x6 Probiotics (there are other good brands - I give the dogs what I take), and Flexicose for joint support. You can feed the mix above to your new pup (if you've decided). The only thing you won't want to do is feed a premade raw w/ bone in it IF you also feed kibble as the kibble already contains enough minerals in it. It is important to make sure a young pup has the proper calcium/phosphorus ratios for proper skeltal growth. Too much is bad. Improper ratios can cause leg and hip deformaties and joint problems later in life. If the pup is showing splay foot, it is usually a sign they've gotten an improper balance. Ronan has been eating premade raw since he was 9 wks old. It's basically like regular raw, except the meat isn't and bones aren't ground up and they don't add any vegetables. It's obviously easier to prepare because most people who do raw grind everything up in a meat grinder first and puree the veggies. Some people are afraid of the dogs choking, but it's not something I'm worried about with my dogs. They've never had trouble chewing anything. I told Tojo's trainer once that Tojo liked to eat whole trouts and she said, "Oh, so you have a meat grinder?" and I said, "No." She looked really confused and asked, "Who grinds them up for you, then?" and I just said, "Tojo does. He's got a whole mouthfull of teeth." As far as skipping the veggies, I'm personally undecided. Brad, yes we're keeping them!  They've been on their own for at least two years, so they're easy keepers (although in desperate need a shearing, which will have to wait for next year). ## brada1878 (admin) · 2007-08-24T23:56:32.000Z We had our dogs on a prey model type feeding before we added Ahi to the mix - Maui and Kaia were on that type of diet for about 2 years with GREAT results. We would just give whole turkey legs, chicken legs, half a duck, hen, fish, and lamb ribs - bone and all (with supplements). They eat it right up w/ no issues. Now we give more of a mix of pre-made raw, ground raw, recreational bones and grain-free kibble with supplements. Eventually we will move to a prey model once all the pups are to an age we don't have to worry about there teeth breaking and what not. Heidi - That's cool you will keep them. Do you not have to worry about wolves in that area, I know around glacier park there are a few roaming packs. Maybe you will need to get as LGD - like a Great Pyrenees or something.
