# Dog coats I'm procrastinating a bit today, so I've been doing some research into dog coats for Lucy. Unsurprisingly, there seems to be a range of stuff out there. Unsurprisingly, there seems to be a range of stuff out there. For anyone that is interested, here's what I've come up with: Ruffwear has the K-9 Overcoat which is a 2 layer sleeveless style. Its cut short so it doesn't restrict movement much and has a single plastic clasp around the chest. It comes in red and green and has reflective trim for walking at night. Doggies Safe and Dry: This is more of a rain coat style than a winter coat. It appears to be cut a little deeper than the ruffwear model so it will protect the chest and belly a bit more. It also has reflective trim. Animal All Stars has expensive, but custom made 2 layer winter coats (scroll down past the "robes"). They only come in 6 colors and a handful of sizes ranging from XXXS to XL. Not much information on the website though. Foggy Mountain Dog Coats makes a whole line of fleece and nylon double and triple layer dog coats. They come in a range of styles, a range of colors, a lot of sizes (every 2" is a new size). They appear to use metal hardware as well. They come in fixed ratio sizes and the instructions say to get one that fits best front to back and deal with whatever length it comes in. (I may order the Nylon turnout for Lucy). Blue Willow Dog Coats makes all 100% custom made dog coats ranging from light(er) weight rain coats to serious winter coats with 3 layers, a heavy fleece lining, and Gore-Tex outer shell. Every measurement is custom and the style is highly customizable. Anecdotal evidence indicates it may take a while to receive this coat. They aren't cheap though. Throw in poor nutrition absorption and her coat has always been somewhat thin and dull. Top that off with her loosing so much body mass in the last few months and you've got a recipe for her to get pretty cold even in our warm GA climate. Joey, on the other hand, I'm pretty sure could stop a bullet with his coat its so thick. It also rains quite a bit where we live and I'm sure he'd appreciate some relief from the damp. What do you guys think of this company? Any experiences with it? Pictures of the good Captain! :) ~ ## _dlroberts · 2009-01-15T20:15:45.000Z I'm not familiar with that company, but just looking at the style I'm 99% sure neither of my Shibas would tolerate it. The only reason Lucy tolerates her jacket is because I bribe her with treats every time she lays eyes on it and, more importantly, it isn't restrictive in the slightest. It fits loosely over her and there is no complicated fitting of the legs into leg slots or anything like that.
