I also cried at the end of Marley and me brought back memories when we had to take Pearly to the vet to be euthenize it was so sad I don't cry much on movies, but this one got me. =::( ## Ryu · 2009-04-07T17:55:04.000Z I tried to explain my reaction to my roommates (who love Ryu (and beginning to appreciate Roxy) but have never owned a dog before) - it's not the movie itself - it's the fact that Ryu and Roxy are the closest thing I have to children and when I think of the day when I wake up and they aren't there... it's impossible for me not to get hysterical. I think any of us dog owners would feel the same way. To people who don't have the pleasure of sharing their lives with an animal, it is just a movie. But to us, it hits too close to home. And though I've seen it multiple times in the 4 days that I've owned the movie, I will cry every time. I went to see the movie at the theatre, and that was a HUGE mistake. I did not even have tissues with me (we went to see it on a whim). But Brandon, you should definitely read the book, then watch the movie. I watched the movie using Jazz as my pillow. I tend to skim the parts about all the research and technical stuff... They did a house in Martinez, CA which was like 5 miles from where I lived. I went to see the taping and the house being built, but no one cool was on site at the time. BOOO.. ## Ryu · 2009-04-07T18:55:58.000Z My best friend (the one in the first picture) was the head of this program named "Blue Star Card" for Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation there in Hawaii. Basically, while your spouse is deployed while stationed in Hawaii, you are eligible to receive this "blue star card" and you get to do lots of cool stuff like attend monthly plays at the Army theatre for free, get a certain number of childcare hours for free, and loads of other stuff. They held monthly "Countdown to Redeployment" events to attend - we would get free massages, see comedians, etc. Anyway, she and I loved the show so much that we skipped out on work to go visit the worksite one day. While we were there, we asked around about how to volunteer. We said that we could get about 10-15 deployed wives out there to lend a hand if they needed it. So, in a 24 hr period, she was able to round up a group of gals to volunteer the next day. (She's beyond awesome and headed this entire program on her own and at only 26 yrs old!) Get a bunch of lonely, patriotic wives together on an ABC function, and you've got press clamoring to get a shot of us and the cast. Needless to say, it was a great day! Roxy between the ottoman and the sofa is hilarious! I didn't like Marley and Me much, but a few tears went down my face and my throat had a knot the size of a bowling ball. I think I will have to watch it with my sis-in-laws sometime at a family gathering... we can have a "group" cry then! They are all the same as me! (I think its more than that post-menopausal reaction --- more a love of doggies and other sentients!) Say, thanks for the "hijacking" too.
