Hey everyone. Honey has a swollen lip. I'm not sure if she was bit or stung, or if she was chewing on something and jammed it in her gum. It does look like she has some kind of "sore" inside her lip. And the swelling HAS come down a bit since I first noticed it. I just worry SO MUCH. I was hoping to get some advice for you guys. Should I give her some medicine? If so how much and what kind? I'm going to keep an eye on it and if it's not better by tomorrow I will DEFF take her in to the vet. But in the mean time, I'm just not sure what to do. Thanks

If you think it's a sting or a bite, you might want to consider giving her some Benadryl. I'm not sure about the dosing for shibas, but I'm sure another member could help out with that.

Can you take a picture of it and post it?

It was REALLY hard to get a pic of it. And the pic actually makes it look worse than it seems. And I looked again and I guess it WASNT a sore that I saw inside her mouth. Just a spot of different color. I crushed up some ice and she seemed to enjoy that. And she's not acting strange. She's still playing with the kids and eating her food. I think she'll be okay. It just scared me when I first saw it. But I still might want some advice on the medicine.

As far as Benadryl goes, I use 1/2 of a 25mg pill

Is that just regular benadryl? Like the kind I would give my kids? Or the adult version? (OR is there a special "doggy" version that I just dont know about? Please excuse my ignorance! lol)

Looks like an allergic reaction to a bite or sting. Use REGULAR Benedryl(Diphenhydramine) with no aspirin or anything. Dosing is 1 mg per pound every 8 hours.

It looks like a little swelling. Was it Honey that is loosing her teeth. I can't recall there are lots of pups on this list.

Anyway, take a look to make sure she did not sheer off a tooth sometimes that causes gums to swell up.

Benedryl should work pretty well if it is simply a bee sting.

Snf

Well, whatever it was....it went away. Honey's lip is back to normal. I'm starting to think she may have just bit it??? No signs of a sting mark or anything....eventhough I'mnot sure I would be able to see it or not! lol But Honey is no worse for the wear! Right now she's sitting below me at my desk, slowly killing me with her gas. lol
