# Fun in NYC: A Trip to Macy's Petacular and Shiba Meet Up (Including a Familiar Face)

We took the boys for a trip to the city today, wearing some thrifty new collars and packs. Always liked to make things myself, so I made them some dress up collars as well as a pack for Tikaani so he can help with carrying his food and water. Here are the collars, on the floor for your viewing pleasure (And I would like to give much kudos to Pam for making a business out of this, it's a very frustrating and hard thing to do, and it's amazing that she can keep doing this) We drove up to the event, and while we waited for it to start Tikaani had become very popular with some re-enactors. Tetsu got Jealous, so he jumped in. My mother and her Chihuahua came along, so she got some lovins too. The Chihuahua was given an opportunity to be near Tikaani, but she didn't like it very much. A couple of Other pics of Tikaani: And some random pics of peoples and costumes: This guy was so interesting to look at: Plus he has a bird on his head: I thought it was a bit wrong to have a chocolate making seminar at a pet event: And a Cat in a Bag: The event was noisy and loud, of which I have found that that is something Tetsu really doesn't like. I've also discovered that he can be pretty grouchy to other dogs when he's tired. We walked quite a bit from the Petacular to the Shiba Meet up, and by the time we got there we were all pretty much dead. But that didn't stop Tikaani from trying to play with the shibas. Tetsu Stayed at the sidelines and watched, sometimes getting a little snippy (I think one of the shibas also help put him in a bad mood by growling at him a bit, he was playful before that) As the meet up was winding down, and some people were leaving, a couple walks in carrying their shiba. They stated that they were a little nervous since their guy is dog reactive and they recently Fostered and adopted him from the NYCSR. The pups looked sort of familiar so I asked his name. The man replied,"his name's Hanzo." I ask, "With Three legs?"(The way Hanzo was held made it difficult to determine the missing leg) "yeah, how'd you know" Well I jumped for joy at meeting a practical celebrity of this forum, and got the opportunity to pet him profusely. We all sat together and talked for a bit, Hanzo just laying and watching. He didn't seem to mind the dogs so long as the didn't enter his "bubble", and sat a foot away from Tetsu with out reaction (so long as Tetsu didn't stare at him) They are a very sweet couple, and you can tell that they care very much for. My mother was surprised that a tri-pup wasn't any easier to catch. Even before we left the meet up, our pups were out but we still needed to take the walk back to get the car. On the way, we stopped off at a restaurant with outside seating, ordered some food and gave the dogs kibble. We drove home with all furry passengers sleeping, while the rest of us reflected on the day.

Seems you guy shad a great, fun day. And exhausting too. :-) Great spam! It's great that you got to meet Hanzo and his people!

What a great day! I'm super jealous. :-) Do you remember who you were talking to in that video? The voice sounds really familiar to me. Hanzo looks like he's doing great with his new family too!

That cat looks so pissed in that bag. Listen people, your cat doesn't want to go anywhere, it wants to sleep on a blanket in the house. That was indeed a big day for your dogs. Looks like you had a good time. How cool to run into Hanzo, it's not like NYC is a small place.

Thanks for the comments guys, it was such a fun day, and Tikaani enjoyed trying to get every pigeon that was walking or flying. Dave- that's not me talking through out the video, that's actually my mother. She likes to boast about the dogs and just keeps talking, especially when she's tired. The lady she was talking to, I never quite got her name, but she had a shiba with a crooked ear due to an injury. Brandon- You think the cat in the bag was bad, you should have seen the poor hamsters in the plastic carrier. It was a nice warm day, with some wind to cool a person down, but those hamsters were just baking under the clear plastic lid.

WOw, what a fun day! Takaani is HUGE now huh? He seemed to enjoy the Shiba play though. HANZO! OMG, I am so jealous! He is looking good! And he was at a meetup! YAY!

Wow, it definitely looks like you guys had a great day. And running into Hanzo and his new family was just icing on the cake!

HANZO! OMG! You ran into HANZO! Wow, he looks absolutely fantastic. wow... thanks for posting that. You made my entire day. Looks like a great time all around, Tikaani and Tetsu look like they enjoy being out and about!

I'm like crying seeing him (hanzo), even in these pics. He looks vibrant, renewed. . .

## Calia · 2009-04-06T12:40:25.000Z
tsukitsune- I'm glad you got to see this, I was hoping you would. His new peoples were nervous to bring him, but we invited them to just sit in a quiet area with Hanzo on the lap. Hanzo was a little nervous, nose drips like crazy, but he remained calm and quiet. They did put him on the ground when there was like 5 other dogs in the room, my guys included, and he just looked around and observed everything. (I'm not sure how much a break-through this is, but in the second pic you can see Tikaani's tail and foot practically next to Hanzo.) He did have a few events (he growled at Tetsu for trying to sniff his butt, Tetsu not taking the hint so had to be dragged away, sneaky little brat kept finding ways to get around us to check Hanzo out. And he took a snap at my mother's chihuahua, but I think that was more cause she was facing him and growling at Tetsu.) His peoples are working to get him socialized with a pair of his parents shih-tzus, didn't start out too well, but they are working slowly in getting him used to dogs. They are even considering getting an aquarium just for Hanzo to stare at. Hanzo also had his first subway experience yesterday with them, and they said he handled it nicely. I may get a chance to see more of him, as they do go out to long island to visit family (and give Hanzo a chance to run in a backyard). They've heard about the meet ups we are trying to start on long island, so I think they may attend a few of them. Kristin- We recently weighed Tikaani and he's at 57lbs, practically 3 times the size of most shibas

## KFontaine04 · 2009-04-06T12:47:34.000Z
Beth - 57lbs! My word. My Husky girls were 45lbs and 60lbs full grown. My one girl was mixed with Am. Eskimo so she was always on the small side. Our red husky was 60lbs. He is gonna be a big boy! So Gorgeous!

## tsukitsune (moderator) · 2009-04-06T12:48:24.000Z
Well, yeah. Thats how Hanzo was. There were times when I could hold him and he'd be 'calm' unless one of my shibas was in his face or touching him somehow. We tried the treating him when they were in the room thing, but sometimes Hanzo wasn't interested in the treat as much as bitching at the dogs. So, for what its worth, I think whatever Spencer and Katie are doing to help him is a break-through. They seem like a hands-on doggy family, I'm so glad. And he would love an aquarium! See: lol. thanks again for posting! I hope you get to see them again in the future!!

I love the spam Beth!! My favorite is of Tetsu lying on Tikaani at the end of the meetup. HOW CUTE!!!! Great collars and pack by the way! I love the colors!

## CrimsonO2 · 2009-04-06T14:24:09.000Z
I can't believe you out-lasted a husky and a shiba and tuckered them both out. Great spam and glad to hear you met a celebrity:). I'm sure the owners were greatly surprised that you knew of the infamous tri-paw! Jesse

Some great pic's Beth.....hopefully next year Oliver and I can make the trip. It looks like it was lots of fun. Steve
