# Question about Creamie Shibas Do all cream shiba's noses turn pink? When does this happen? Sake's nose is all black, but she is only 5 months old. Just wondering. :) ## Leonberger (admin) · 2009-01-07T12:11:15.000Z Although I don't know how it is with cream Shibas, a lot of light haired dogs might have unpigmented noses, loads of breeds even have it mentioned in their standards. White Akitas are one of those breeds. It's possible, but it doesn't mean it will happen. ## tsukitsune (moderator) · 2009-01-07T12:19:38.000Z I asked Brad this when I first joined because I saw pics of Maui and thought "will Tsuki's nose turn pink?". tsuki's nose was black up until she was almost a year old then it started to turn mocha brown and now is top center pink and the rest brown. She's getting there. I think by the time they are 2-3 years old they should have their pinkie :) ## lindsayt · 2009-01-07T12:25:24.000Z It is desired (but not required) in the shiba standard to have pigmented skin and nose leather, however, I agree with Rui that where light haired dogs are concerned, there is a more natural tendency for them to have lightly pigmented skin. Part of it is also genetics. She may keep her black nose. Sake is very cute. ## KFontaine04 · 2009-01-07T12:29:55.000Z I hope it stays black, it's a cute little button nose now. I was just wondering because she does have some "pinkie" at the top center of her nose now. I didn't know if that would expand. While we're talking creamies, Kristin, weren't you talking about Sake getting redder a while back? I have definately noticed Remy getting way more red in some areas (back legs, tail, ears) and his skunk stripe is getting darker and wider. She has a defanate red "skunk" stripe that runs from the top of her head to the base of her tail. She also has red on the back of her back legs and around her ears. It hasn't darkened much since the last time, only slightly. She walked away...maybe it was my tone of voice? ## Nekopan · 2009-01-08T16:24:16.000Z Genetics of coat colour in Shibas isn't very well understood, but it's widely accepted that cream is a dilution of red. Any canine with the dilution gene will sport a liver-coloured nose. Read more about Shiba and urajiro here. Cream shiba images do not do their unique color patterns justice, I think Tsuki has more muted red than white furs on her body, but in pics, between the natural light contrasts and the flash properties, its really hard to get a true to life depiction of her reds and her whites. She has a clear white spot (Ninja-like) on the back of her neck and the tip of her tail - it really brings out the red in comparison in her coat! I find pics don't really ever do coat colours justice. Osy, Remy is actually VERY white with some minor exceptions as I've mentioned before. He blends in with the snow almost perfectly (except those spotted red ears and pink nose that stand out). When I saw several other creamies close up at the last meetup, it really ocurred to me how 'cream' (i.e. not white) most of them actually are. ## KFontaine04 · 2009-01-09T16:47:49.000Z I have some photos where you can't even see the red and others where Sake looks VERY red so it may be a play with the lights and everything. To me she just looks like a red/white skunk :P And yes Osy, she is ALL leggs just like her momma! It still doesn't do the color justice, like this one, in unnatural light, her against the cream of tile and carpet: but versus the snow in natural light, here's what I got: against the snow, her redness really shows, right?
