Today, on our daily stroll around the neighborhood (Our other walks are on our property.) I was approached by a neighbor of mine who believes Tosca's an Akita. I've told her that Tosca is a Shiba Inu, but appearently she knows better than I what kind of dog I own. This was sort of clear when, after I told her this, she responded with a very dismissive "Of course, Dear."

She was out with her Miniature Schnauzer and called to me as we neared her yard. "Miss, I didn't want to say anything the last time I saw you, but I really think that you should warn people when you bring an agreesive dog like an Akita into an area with children." I was a little slow on the uptake so I gave a bewildered "Huh?" She rolled her eyes. " Your Akita. You should tell people before you bring an attack dog into their community." With that she picked up her dog and went in the house telling the dog not to worry because she wouldn't let the "the big, mean dog" hurt it.

So I own 24 lbs of raging ferocity. Who knew?

LOL, you should print out the Akita and Shiba AKC standards with pics and put it on her door step. And next time you see her, you can tell her to get her "Giant Schnauzer" (which, by the way are REALLY used for protection training, or as an "attack dog" as this wise neighbor calls it) under control, and to warn the innocent children when he approaches.

OMG, LOL!!! Agreed Kelly!

## Sangmort (moderator) · 2008-12-10T01:26:31.000Z
OMG! THIS is the reason why Akita's have such a bad rep! THIS is the reason why I can't have an akita unless I own my own house! "Attack dog" or "restricted breed!" Stupid hag spreading lies about things she doesn't know about :( Makes me so mad. >:( Anyways, I think Tosca looks extra vicious in that pic :) I think she needs a spiked collar lol ~

## Kaddy · 2008-12-10T01:28:54.000Z
OOOH I agree with Osy!!! I saw some cute pink spiked collars with rhinestones on them the other day... now if I could just remember where... And I REALLY think you should print out the descriptions like Kelly said - totally worth it to educate someone who thinks they know it all!

## WhiteGC8 · 2008-12-10T05:34:23.000Z
Nancy, I'm afraid your neighbor's an idiot. Stay as far away as possible in order to prevent any possibility that you may catch her idiocy. :p

## Zinja · 2008-12-10T05:54:09.000Z
I can let you borrow my Akita for a day :) -Joe

## tobyshiba · 2008-12-10T08:56:40.000Z
Some people are so ignorant. She sounds like the biggest idiot ever. :0 Just ignore her, next time you see her, just show her pictures of both breeds and tell her how blind she is. Shibas aren't even that big! D:

## brandon_w (admin) · 2008-12-10T10:12:37.000Z
Kelly's idea is a good one, but don't just put them on her doorstep, staple them to her forehead.

## KFontaine04 · 2008-12-10T10:47:11.000Z
HA HA, Yeah Tosca is a fierce, vicious, agressive looking Akita all right! Especially when she is dressed up in necklaces and glasses and such! What a complete dumb $hi@&. I too think you should print out the breed standards for her. I like the idea of calling her dog a "Giant Schnauzer" too. People are SO dumb.

I love connaiseurs! My favourite part is when they carry on with all their knowledge even after they have it explained to them.

## sunyata · 2008-12-10T10:57:22.000Z
Wow. What a scary dog you have, Nancy. How do you ever sleep at night knowing such an agressive attack dog is at the foot of your bed??? I agree that this woman needs to be educated. Not only about what a Shiba Inu is, but what an Akita is and their personalities. (and I also agree with Brandon about the staples...)

you know, i have a neighbor that always says 'look at that ferocious bunch' whenever we walk by. I thought he was kidding until one day we walked by and Tsuki went [joyfully] berserk to be pet and he's like "i never met such a friendly akita!" and i was all "Thats because she's a Shiba Inu" - got perplexed look - "like a mini akita"...

## ILuvMy2Shibas · 2008-12-10T12:38:50.000Z
This has happened to me, at my town house complex. I filled all my paper work out about Niko and Guinness and then took it up to them, took Niko with me when i dropped it off, and they told me i couldn't keep him, I asked why and they said he is an Akita, and not allowed. I said he's not an Akita he's a Shiba Inu, they said No he is not, i said yes he is. I said fine, i will have the vet write a letter stating his is a Shiba Inu and also provide you with all his rescue paper work stating he is a Shiba Inu.

I provided everything, and then they must of told my neighbors to be careful around my dogs, because they are agressive!!!! Which is the complete opposite....I had to educate my neighbors, because they are idiots to believe something they heard!!!

## mike_t · 2008-12-10T12:47:00.000Z
Yup, I'd be careful if I was you...in that pic, she looks ready to pounce!!!!!!

## Sangmort (moderator) · 2008-12-10T13:03:33.000Z
We should have the Nihon Ken Forum Meet-Up in front of your neighbor's house lol ~

## KFontaine04 · 2008-12-10T13:08:52.000Z
HA HA HA, now that would be funny Osy.

## santuzza · 2008-12-10T13:12:31.000Z
Good idea, Osy, and everyone actually. I wonder if I could just borrow Hilo for a few days... :D

## KFontaine04 · 2008-12-10T13:15:15.000Z
Mmmm, I want to "borrow" Hilo, it's the giving him back part I would have trouble with :P

## santuzza · 2008-12-10T14:04:07.000Z
I think this forum is also the unofficial Hilo Fan Club. I don't know why? Maybe it's those ears.

## CrimsonO2 · 2008-12-10T14:26:58.000Z
You mean there's an official Hilo Fan Club elsewhere? :) Jesse

## kwyld · 2008-12-10T15:21:45.000Z
Brandon, you made me spit out my food with that comment, lolsies! Nancy, you could get her really fired up if next time you see her, say "Oh hello there, how are you? I just love your little mixed breed, is it a Pug mix?" (Or some other mix that looks NOTHING like her dog!!) And she'll say "Absolutely not, this is a purebred Miniature Schnauzer and her name is Pookie." Your response can be "Well wherever you got her from, they clearly misled you, because that is obviously a Pug/English Mastiff mix."

## KFontaine04 · 2008-12-10T15:22:47.000Z
LOL Kelly!

## _dlroberts · 2008-12-10T15:38:05.000Z
Man, I love this forum. :-) Nowhere else I know is it 100% socially acceptable to seek advice about how to tell people they are total morons to their face in as polite a way as possible.

## Sangmort (moderator) · 2008-12-10T15:45:21.000Z
lol Kelly! I LOVE it! Nancy, can I be there when you tell her that??? If she insists, then tell her "No, no, it is CLEARLY a pug / english mastiff mix. Be careful, I hear when they turn eight years old their brain becomes unstable and they begin to hunt small children. :)" PLEASE!!! :) ~

## sunyata · 2008-12-10T15:49:44.000Z
LOL! I will settle for a video of it. Osy, you are in charge of the camera. :)

## KFontaine04 · 2008-12-10T15:50:14.000Z
Im trying not to bust out laughing in the middle of my office right now, but I just can't help it! You guys are SO funny. Nancy, just say "yep she is a crazy akita, you better not come out here any more or I will give her the attack signal!"

## lindsayt · 2008-12-11T08:03:03.000Z
What a blow hole.

Nan, Tosca can borrow Beebe's t-shirt "Attack Dog in Training". That'll shut your neighbor up next time you see her.

You know, I used to be a Schnauzer person, but I wanted a less aggressive and less vocal dog so I got a shiba...enough said.

Also, I like it when the shibas are at work with me, and it's the schnauzers that start all the shit.
