# LA-AKIHO Show Feb 2009 I went to the LA Akiho show in Gardena on Sunday. The Akitas were gorgeous and everyone was very nice. I gotta be honest, at the risk of sounding like a snob and pissing some people off, I'm not super impressed with these dogs. Tho, I do agree that #33 and #35 are nice Akita - #33 is very nice. #32 is really cute. Thanx for sharing! Did you meet any of the breeders? It was amazing to see the three of them interact -they really missed each other. The brindle number 45 was so well behaved. Hence why I was able to get so many photos of it. I am a little bummed that I could not get a better photo of the silver brindle # 39. To Chanur Akita - This is the LA Branch Akiho Club many of their members have traveled to Japan. Very nice people and very into Japanese Akita. I noticed that they were very concerned with blood lines, finding quality breeders. There was also a lot of interest from people looking for puppies both for breeding and for show. To Brada1878 - yes I did find a breeder and a puppy, details to follow ) ## Chanur Akita · 2009-02-17T17:16:50.000Z Brad: i'm agree with you, it's why I show the pics of the Akita I love at this dogshow. The quality of the other Akita I see on the other pics, it's like old japanese linees in France last 20/25 years ago!!! ;-P There is lot of work to do with Akita Inu breeding in the USA. Just my Akita Inu breeder opinion, no offense, hu?! :-)) jackBurton: import from Japan is not always a guarantee of quality. it depend of the breeder. Japan Akita breeder (in general) keep the best top quality dog for us.... In France, we've got lot of japanese importation, but it cost a lot for quality.( some japanese champion import from Japan to France: aproxymatively 13 000 USD the Akita dog!!) On the pics: we can see good atmosphere on this dogshow, I think it was very interresting for all!!! ;-) Hope to import from Japan one day.... But I need more money hihihi :-)) ## Sarako · 2009-02-18T18:17:41.000Z Woow ! There are a lot of differences between euopean and american akita inu ! It seems to me to see on these pictures old lineages w had in 80' or 90'... I just went to japan this january.... And I can say that they don't sell there best dogs to overseas.... without a real and long friendship ! for exemple : A french import : Kaishi go shishimen kensha Another one, Japanese champion living in France : And there is a lot of import like this in Europe... ## Leonberger (admin) · 2009-02-18T18:42:14.000Z Kaishi is Kuma's sire, he was Silvia's :-) He's a very good looking Akita! ## *JackBurton* · 2009-02-18T19:15:39.000Z First off being new to this -I may not notice or pickup on certain traits between different akita. I also am finding it very hard to compare photos with almost every photo has someone pulling up and-or putting the collar forward to enhance the round face. I did notice that some of the Akitas did not have the same triangular eyes and their ears did not point forward as much. I partly feel that was bad on me -since I was trying to get photos of Akitas while at rest and play. In fact I took very few photos of Akitas in the ring. Could someone highlight some of these differences? ## brada1878 (admin) · 2009-02-18T21:19:00.000Z Have you read the Akita Inu standard? It can be hard to follow the standard, and apply it [in an unbiased way] to an animal - looking at it purely from a composition standpoint. Once you start doing it, the "good" ones and the "bad" ones become clearer. Having said that, you can learn the standard and feel comfortable with it, then spend some time with a someone who has showed Akita for many many years and they will point out things you may have never thought to look at. I am not gonna break apart the dogs in the pictures above - for fear of offending someone. I will do this tho, here is a list of the standards that I feel were lost in some of the Akita in the pictures from the show... [just my opinion] - Skull: The size is in proportion to the body. The forehead is broad, with distinct furrow. No wrinkle. - Muzzle: Moderately long and strong with broad base, tapering but not pointed. Nasal bridge straight. - Lips: Tight. - Eyes: Relatively small, almost triangular in shape due to the rising of the outer eye corner, set moderately apart, dark brown…the darker, the better. - Ears: Relatively small, thick, triangular, slightly rounded at tips, set moderately apart, pricked and inclining forward. - Chest: Deep, forechest well developed, ribs moderately well sprung. - Belly: Well drawn up. - TAIL: Set on high, thick, carried vigorously curled over back; the tip nearly reaching hocks when let down. - COLOUR: Red fawn, sesame (red fawn hairs with black tips), brindle and white. All the above mentioned colours except white must have *urajiro*. (Urajiro = whitish coat on the sides of the muzzle, on the cheeks, on the underside of jaw, neck, chest, body and tail and on the inside of the legs). I hope that helped. ---- ## ShikokuSpirit (moderator) · 2009-02-19T01:29:13.000Z I was kinda disappointed that there weren't very many dogs entered. I think there were about 18-20 entries. Silly me, I didn't take hardly any photos. I got there kinda late though, so I was only there for about 1-2 hours? These are the better photos I took, the others aren't that great. I don't think the handlers would want me to put those ones up, lol. ## Sarako · 2009-02-19T03:13:25.000Z To leonberger : Kaishi is living in France now. ;-) I'm agree with brada. To see what is good and what is not on a dog, you need to learn it, and the best is with a person who have this experience. With time, it will come. What I see mostly (not on all dogs !) of LA show, is bad ears implantation (and too big size), not triangular eyes. This two points are the most important, because you can see somthing wrong on the dog. Then, less fur, the tail in japanese Akita, need to do a full round, proportions of the body is 10/11 (so quite a squarre), some of these dogs are too long... angulation of the legs are not good (Akita have very strait legs)... ## *JackBurton* · 2009-02-19T03:59:04.000Z Brada and Sarako, Thank you -your replies. I have read the description of the standard before but its really hard to focus on it while watching the show. Your two replies do help me key in on what to look at in the future. Sure is fun, learning about this stuff. ShikokuSpirit, I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you at the show. If all goes will, I will be getting a brindle female puppy from Ben in a week or two.
