He is such a sweet boy! ## brandon_w (admin) · 2008-02-04T12:36:34.000Z I don't remember Huku.  I'm wishing him a speedy recovery though.  He has such beautiful tan markings. ## hukuchan · 2008-02-04T12:43:21.000Z Huku's 13 months old now and is a bit on the small side - he's not quite 20 lbs, although he's probably closer to 18 now because he's had a lot of issues with the medications he was taking and didn't eat much (and what he did eat came back up VERY quickly). Looks like he's got his appetite back, so we'll be fattening him up again.  He was diagnosed as a grade 2 (doc said it was actually about a 2.5, for what it's worth). Gets his splint off and staples out this week, then it's onto about 4 (hopefully that's all) weeks of rehab before he can start running freely again. Appreciate the nice thoughts from everyone... ## brandon_w (admin) · 2008-02-04T12:55:17.000Z Surgery for grade two?  Did the vets think that it would deteriorate rapidly?  Just wondering because I'm not sure if I have ever heard of surgery for grade 2. ## brada1878 (admin) · 2008-02-04T12:57:21.000Z For those of you who don't remember - Jen and I watch Huku for a few weeks when Stephen (his owner - posted above) was in Japan. ## hukuchan · 2008-02-04T13:04:44.000Z Both doc's (we saw 2) recommended surgery and as mentioned above, the one who performed the surgery said it was actually more like a 2.5. He had also torn one of the ligaments (can't remember which one - it wasn't the cranial ligament though...believe it was the one on the outside of his knee). Essentially, his knee cap was out of place roughly 50% of the time.  Wasn't going to give him more opportunity to grind down the knee area and increase his chances for arthritis later on in life. I figure 6-8 weeks of dealing with this is a MINOR inconvenience over the course of his lifetime. ## brandon_w (admin) · 2008-02-04T13:11:27.000Z Thanks for the explination.  A torn ligament and the kneecap out of place sounds like it would have been very painful for Huku.  At his age, I'm sure he'll be tearing around in no time. ## MommyofNiko · 2008-02-04T22:09:36.000Z Poor guy.  Niko has a grade 2 but it hasnt bothered her in months.  It seems that this last spring/summer was very bad.
