# Went to the dog park today (UBER spam)

The dogs and I had to get out so Chad took us to the dog park. I got some great shots of psycho Niko and a few of Sasha being carefree. I couldnt see through the camera because it was so bright so I just kept clicking. Sorry if it is too much, but NO ONE can ever get too much Niko and Sasha spam...…

I'm so glad you got to get out of the house for a little while!

## CrimsonO2 · 2008-10-11T22:58:37.000Z
Nothing dwarfs a rottie like a Great Dane. Great spam. Thanks for the pictures!

## MommyofNiko · 2008-10-11T23:34:50.000Z
Thanks. The last pic is Niko's usual co-pilot position. She was laying her head against Chad's. The Great Dane was gorgeous. Niko was also chasing a few German Shepherds. Someone asked me when she started to run like that. I told them it was her breed, they all had fun watching her and many showered her with TOO Much attention. I also got a chance to educate someone about pits. She brought her neighbors lab/pit mix and she told me she is waiting for it to get mean. She was very interested and shocked when I told her what the breed is really like.

"Waiting for it to get mean?" how horrible :( ~

Looks like a great time! Sasha has a huge tongue. They looks so happy on the way home, I bet they were needing that time outside.

That is one awesome dog park. The ones in NJ are much smaller in comparison. Niko looks like she had a great time - sasha too!

Dave-I knew you would comment about Sasha! She defiantly has more fun and is more free with Chad being there.

Where is that dog park? It's beautiful! I live 20 minutes South of Boston, MA and we don't have ANY fenced in dog parks around here, it is very sad for my two shiba's because they LOVE playing with other dogs. The closest fenced park is a 30 minute drive :(

That one is in Snellville, GA - most of the county parks that have dogs parks have a pretty good amount of space to them. The ones that we go to for our meetups usually have a big dog area and a small dog area, plus a dog run. Some have shade, some do not but there are usually a couple of benches for the humans. Below are a couple of links to find nearby dog parks or to find them while you are traveling: http://www.ecoanimal.com/dogfun/ http://animal.discovery.com/features/dogpark/map/map.html

I love that park but my only complaint is there is only one tree for shade, during the Hotlanta days all humans and dogs gather under the one tree.

## tobyshiba · 2008-10-14T16:11:05.000Z
Thats exactly how our dog park is, too. :( Theres like 2 trees for shade and its like the desert the rest of the time. It still gets hot in the summer in PA! Once the sun starts setting around 6-7pm, then the trees block it and there's plenty of shade.

Rachael: So good to read you are up on your feet again and out the door --- Hope all is going well with "the baby under construction". Love the doggie pics --- looks like they were ready for a romp! Not trying to be mean, but I have to tell everyone about the off-leash dog park we have here in Maple Grove (NW suburb of Mpls). It is about 40 acres, all fenced, with mature trees, smaller trees and tall grasses, variety of trails, ponds and wetlands, high hill where doggies and humans can survey what's happening everywhere in the doggie park or go zooming down the hill to chase a ball, and then run back up the hill again (this game is definitely the most fun when multiple dogs are engaged)! The dog park is accessible all year-round. Of course, there are days with the same problem as Atlanta, but some of the paths are fully shaded, and then the opposite problem from Atlanta --- snow, cold temps, high winds, etc. Doggies seem to love it, whenever the season! We humans just have to bundle up, dress down, or otherwise dress for the weather! Into late summer and fall the pond waters are suspect, so many of us humans make it a practice to bring in fresh water for the communal drinking basins that have been left in a few choice spots in the park. An unlimited use pass to the off-leash park costs $25 for the year, and a day pass is $3 or $5, I guess. The dog park is within a huge Hennepin county park (Elm Creek Park, covering multiple square miles --- there are at least 30+ miles of paved hiking/biking trails, multiple unpaved paths and trails, etc.). I believe dogs are also allowed on-leash on certain other unpaved trails in the park (also used by hikers and horseback riders). In winter there is wonderful cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, etc. in this park. There are no use charges for the park at this time (used to have a system of annual or daily passes, but I guess that got to expensive to administer). I believe there may be use charges for the cross-country trails and lodge in the winter-time, but perhaps those have been eliminated, too. I understand there are at least 2-3 other off-leash dog parks at other Hennepin county parks, as well. I haven't been to them, but many of the doggies and their owners that we see at Elm Creek use some of the others, too. I believe the annual pass is good at all of them. I hear they vary in amenities --- one (also in the NW suburbs) is not entirely fenced, but has a river as it's boundary at the unfenced part, for example. So, one more of the many reasons we love it here in MN, I guess!

That is so awesome Bev! I had been wondering about dog parks in MN. That sounds awesome and around the area we love. Just make me miss MN even more. My mom just drove here from WI and Im so mad that I didnt tell her to bring apple cider. The apple cider is no good here. I miss the orchards, I miss that fall, I miss the fair, I miss the river.... : ( You are so mean Bev!
