Kiyoki (black chow mix), a beloved family pet went to sleep today to never again wake. I was there at her moment of passing. She went peacefully and silently. The only sounds were of tear shed and muffled mourning from those she left behind. It is due to cancer and old age (11 years) that we are never to see her again, but hold dear all the memories. Home will never again be the same. There will be a sort of emptiness without her barking to anounce arrivals. No big black dog to say "Hi" and "Bye" to everyday. She is the only dog to have free roam of the entire front yard. She will be dearly missed.

I know it's painful. I made the decision to put down my first dog JR ten years ago. He was 13 and had developed a heart murmur. We all want what's best for our dogs. The passing of a loved one is an unfortunate reality, but relish and bask in the fact that you enriched each other's lives. Kiyoki spent her life being a member of your pack. When you ache from missing her so, know that Kiyoki prepared you for this day by filling your heart day by day with little moments that made you smile and laugh; gleaming with pride; joyful and happy. You once called upon Kiyoki to build these life enriching memories; now Corina, you must call upon these memories so that Kiyoki may continue to enrich your life by you teaching her lessons to others - whether it was learning to be patient, more aware or opening your heart to everything around you. The memories you have, both good and bad, are a culmination of years of dedication, passion and love. Kiyoki will always be with you in your heart where she can rest peacefully.

Ryan...that was beautiful <3 I think you summed up what everyone feels in words amazingly. ~

My condolences go out to you and your family/pack. 11 years is a long, good life for a dog so, although hard, you must think only of the good times. It sounds like she will live forever inside your heart and that is all that she could ask of you. Keep your head up and know that your forum has your back if you need to vent. Getting it off your chest always beats bottling it up. Nevertheless, here's to Kiyoki, you will be sorely missed.
