# help: missing half of nylabone :-( I don't know if its my fault or my roommates (not that it matters at this point) but somehow a nylabone was left in Joey's crate with him and when I came home today half of it is completely gone. Well, I assume it was left in his crate because I found the half in his crate. I looked in and around his crate and found nothing. I shook out the blankets in his crate and found nothing. I'm kinda freaking out. Its one of the keys (http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2750568). The round half is the half I found. What do I need to look for to make sure he's ok? Lethargy, reduced appetite or anorexia (which he has periodically anyway), diarrhea or soft stool (which he has periodically anyway), vomiting, blood in the stool. What else? Would I be totally crazy to just take him to the emergency vet anyway? Am I overreacting? Crap. Why does it seem like my dogs are a never ending source of stress this summer? ## Leonberger (admin) · 2008-08-12T19:37:31.000Z If i read the info on my new nylabone pack, it says that the stuff is non toxic. I'm doubting that, if Joey ate it, he ate it whole, he probably started taking bits from it. Having said that, I'd wait and see how he acts, if he's playing and drinking. I'm guessing you'll find bits of colourful plastic in his poop tomorrow. If so, there could be the problem. That toy isn't made to hold up to them. I just called the emergency vet. They didn't seem concerned at all. They said to watch for vomiting and anorexia. Uggg. :-( ## brada1878 (admin) · 2008-08-12T20:02:46.000Z Off the top of my head I would say look for [some of these you listed already]: 1- Loss of appetite 2- Lethargy 3- Horrible diarrhea is a sign of a blocked GI 4- Watch out for him trying to eat things like gravel and grass, that's a sign he is trying to pass something. I would just watch him tonight and tomorrow, if he acts relatively normal I would say he is fine. It never hurts tho to take him to the emergency room, but just be prepared to get nothing from the visit. You have called the vet and he/she (?) wasn't overly concerned so now you will be more vigilant than ever. Have a glass of wine and try to relax. Joey will most likely be just fine. I think a glass of wine is definitely in my future. :-) I try to be really careful with toys...I never leave them on the floor except in places the dogs aren't allowed to be without my supervision. This just reinforces to me how easily accidents can happen and how vigilant you have to be. ## tsukitsune (moderator) · 2008-08-12T21:08:08.000Z Poor Dave and Joey! I can't really add much except that while I was vigilant watching puppy tsuki with her need to devour everything, my husband - not so much. She passed every single thing she ate - fluff, plastic bits, tissue, carpet and all. Fun times. She once pooped at the vet, and out came a turd - with words on it! It was like a Shiba Fortune Turd Cookie. It said "Sears Tye Pennington Collection, $12.99". i'll never forget that as long as I live. The vet read it aloud! So, in part I hoped this story calmed your nerves and also helps you realize these dogs are sturdy as they come, whatever he ate, you will surely find in a few poops in his future! I really appreciate all the support! ## _dlroberts · 2008-08-12T22:23:26.000Z So, this just occurred to me while I was walking the dogs....I don't think I communicated that the reason I'm stressed about it is not that half of the toy is missing, its that the remaining half of the toy has a clean edge (i.e. shows no signs of being chewed) and there are no remnants of it anywhere. It appears to have snapped in half somehow. His appetite has been fine and his stools has been normal. He's vomited water twice which he has done in the past, but it is pretty unusual for him. My big concern is that he is sneezing/snorting/clearing his throat a lot. I took him to the vet yesterday and after a physical exam (no x-rays) she concluded that it was unrelated at gave him some anti-histamines which don't seem to be helping at all. If there's no noticeable improvement by Sunday I'll take him back on Monday. I just have this nagging feeling that its lodged somewhere in his wind pipe. But he's got plenty of energy and great attitude so I keep trying to convince myself that its completely unrelated. Time will tell I guess. Just know that I have a feeling that there isn't something to worry about. But better to worry and find out he is okay, than to blow it off and then have to deal with him being injured in some way. ## Ryu · 2008-08-15T20:02:27.000Z I just took Ryu to the vet for that sneezing/snorting/ clearing throat/nostrils thing that he's been doing all week. I think its unrelated to your Nylabone mystery :) BTW, the vet said as long as there isn't any gooky discharge coming from his mouth or nostrils, it's probably just seasonal allergies and should pass when all the pollen stops blowing around. I know it can get pretty bad in GA. ## _dlroberts · 2008-08-15T20:15:07.000Z Thanks guys. Weird that Kuma, Joey, and Ryu are all having a similar thing. Its way past pollen season here (well, at least the bad part), so I don't think its pollen. It very well could be a seasonal allergy though. My vet said the same thing about discharge.
