# Kai at Inoue Kennel in Saitama (April 13th)

I didn't take that many pictures as I was busy talking to Inoue-san most of the time. I've been friendly with his daughter on a Kai SNS forum, and so went up for a visit. I'll be going up again in a few weeks and should be able to get more spam. They've got around 10 Kai, 7 kuro-tora and 3 aka-tora…

I'll be going up again in a few weeks and should be able to get more spam. They've got around 10 Kai, 7 kuro-tora and 3 aka-tora. One of the females was absolutely gorgeous, but I didn't get a picture of her this time. a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/30674599@N04/3438565122/" title="DSC_0106 by KatoTheWalrus, on Flickr">

... and some puppies! Ultimate fail for not taking more pics of them, but they were so cute I had to play with them. Inoue-san's older brother is a Hokka fancier and lives right down the street. He has three at the moment, 2 reds and a white. Here's his 4 month old pup that just placed 2nd at the regional Nippo show last week.

Awesome spam Shigeru!!!!! It's very interesting to see the differences between these Kai and Kona, for example. They seem to be of a much lighter build.

Very nice spam Shigeru! These are really nice looking Kai. I noticed the same thing as Rui, they are much lighter build than Kona. Do you know roughly how old the first Kai is? I know the Akatora tend to have a lighter build, i think they are referred to as the "tiger type" and Kona would be more of the "bear type". Great pics! ----

Shigeru: Thanks for sharing the pictures of the Kai and of the Hokka. Beautiful dogs! Brad: Your comment about the "bear type" is so interesting. When we brought Josephine home, our neighbor looked over and saw her climbing on a little wood pile, and called over something like "What do you have now? A bear cub?"... The little pups in the pics from Shigeru do look a little like cubs, but not so roly-poly as Josephine was. Guess they keep that trimmer body style throughout their life. Anyway Shigeru: More pics of Kai are always welcome (and the other doggies, too!! Thanks again.

The Kai in the first and last pic are the parents of the 2 pups (females). The 3 other pups were males, and have already gone to their owners. One of the males was picked by Hokkaido University for use in their raccoon program. The non-native raccoons have moved into Hokkaido either from the mainland or abandoned pets, and are causing a lot of damage. They set hundreds of traps last year but managed to snag very few raccoons. They're now using Kai to track the coons movements and set traps closer to their dens.

That's really interesting about the raccoons.
