The ability to flatten / squash their bodies in order to fit through freakishly small passages.

Today, Kaya [a neighborhood dog that's always off leash], visited the dogs when they were out in the yard. They all freaked out and wanted to play with her.

So how does Loa handle this situation?...

She squeezes her body through part of the wire fence, a part above her head (so she had to jump to do this), with her legs pinned to her sides.

So, I just want you guys to get the visual on this, she is sticking through the wire fence with her front legs pinned to her sides and her rear legs dangling... With the force of her jump, she pushed herself through the fence up to her front elbows, and was giving Kaya kisses! lol!

Jen saw her do this and she helped her out.

So it looks like another visit from the fence guy is in our future. :c)

Hahahaha. Loa is such a sweetie! I can't believe she managed to do that. She's got the determination of a Shiba huh?

## okiron · 2008-04-29T18:06:25.000Z
LMAO Kaya was your fence tester. Certified and insured :P

## brada1878 (admin) · 2008-04-29T19:56:29.000Z
So true Rina! lol.

Dave, she has the determination of a Shikoku... Take a Shiba's determination and multiply by at least 100.

I have come to learn that the more primitive the breed the more determined and relentless they are. I guess it comes from being less-domesticated than the average dog and so therefore they look to humans less for help.

In a situation where Maui would try for 30 minutes to do get something, Ahi, Loa, or Kona would try ALL DAY and would not stop till we finally put them in their crate or something... then Kona would cry because we did that. lol!

The Akita - not so much... they would be like (after 3 minutes of trying) "Hmm, I think I'm using to much energy for this, I'm going to bed...".

LOL Brad

## _dlroberts · 2008-04-29T22:24:02.000Z
LOL Brad. I love the Akita description! The funny thing is my personality is probably a mixture of Shiba and Akita. If its something I care about, I'll spend a lot of time trying to figure it out and if I can't, I'll just make it work however I can. If its something I don't care that much about, I'll get frustrated that I can't make it work, try like hell for a little while, then give up and forget about it completely. Now I really want an Akita!

I think I am probably a similar mix... but maybe even more like a Shikoku / Akita mix... If I get obsessed with something I can't let it go... but generally I would rather be laying around sleeping.

To give you guys a little size perspective, here is a pic (it was the opening right above her head):

She's crazy. lol.

Wow. What do you think the fence guy will do about it? Put another layer of wire staggered?

## brada1878 (admin) · 2008-04-30T00:49:49.000Z
I dunno, I think we will have to put a different type of wire fence along the bottom half... that will cost us a fortune.

Hey Brad,   Take up a collection from all your fellow dog lovers here on the forum.   I'll put in a buck or two.....

## okiron · 2008-04-30T02:20:12.000Z
Great idea, I don't mind throwing some money your way Brad with all you put into the forum.

## _dlroberts · 2008-04-30T02:41:21.000Z
Agreed. I'll contribute too. Aside from everything you do for the forum (both effort and money), your pack is educational for all of us. I'm happy to support pedagogical pursuits! :-)

Yeah Brad!  I mentioned this to you a few months ago - You need to start a Donation section and make a paypal address to send the donations!  At least to pay for part of the forum expenses.  And its a donation, not a membership so im sure people will still be joining and not be turned off by thinking there's a membership to join.  you should make the paypal address: donations@nihonken.org :)

## Leonberger (admin) · 2008-04-30T08:52:20.000Z
I second (more like fifth) that motion! You put in loads of time here...

## JessicaRabbit (admin) · 2008-04-30T12:59:22.000Z
Once I get the estimate for my fence, if there is any budget left over I will send some your way

## ljowen123 (moderator) · 2008-04-30T13:18:39.000Z
I agree on the donations - it doesn't have to be for a membership, but a donation to allow us to contribute toward the costs on the forum.  For instance - the left align issue tooks hours you could have been billing to a client - let us help offset these costs, please!

lol... you guys are so great. :c)

I really appreciate the sentiment, but no need. Jen and I had already budgeted for fence "tweaking" in order to make sure it was 100% fortified. Thanx so much tho guys!

## okiron · 2008-04-30T17:13:14.000Z
Brad I think you should put up your address on the forum so we could send you....Christmas cards! :P
