# Ahi is limping. :c( Seems to be her right knee, I looked at her foot and it is fine. She has done this off and on in her life but the past few days it has been constant. It doesn't seem too bad. Mika had a problem recently, she couldn't even jump up on the bed and she wasn't putting much weight on her foot. Even when she was standing, she wouldn't put it down. Doc didn't even x-ray because when he worked her leg and foot, he didn't feel anything unusual. She had full range of motion, she wasn't complaining when we touched or worked the leg. We all attributed it to rough play. But, it wasn't a constant thing for her. I could feel she had a temp in her face. I confirmed with an ear thermometer *which she HATES) and the doctor triple confirmed it. Is that what LP is? ## brada1878 (admin) · 2008-03-18T14:10:55.000Z Ahi is a year and a half, I am concerned it is LP (luxating patella), I can move her knee with my hand from side to side, but not very far... so I dunno that it is fully "luxating". If I straiten her leg out it must hurt her because she get really mad at me when I do that. What is Pano? She has no fever, Jen is calling today for a vet appointment. I agree that we should xray her foot and leg, but she has had these xrays before and showed no signs of LP... so I dunno what it could be. She seem to be pretty uncomfortable tho. ## _dlroberts · 2008-03-18T14:26:42.000Z Yeah, it occurred to me after I submitted my post what LP is. Pano is short for Panosteitis which is a fancy term for growing pains. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1561&articleid=466 I have a good friend with a GSD that has pano (as does all of his litter mates). It more has to do with bone development. Did you notice this sentence in the article? Of course the vet appointment is always a good idea. Did she get a nasty bump playing rough? The pano theory does seem probable. I'm sure the vet will tell you more. So the earliest we could get a vet appointment is Tuesday of next week! If I see it getting real bad we will drive her to Santa Fe to see an emergency vet. Meantime I will be emailing our vet in ATL w/ all the videos and info to get her advice/opinion... she knows our dogs well. ## _dlroberts · 2008-03-18T23:06:16.000Z Do keep us updated. Given that Ahi's littermate had/has pano, that would be the leading candidate in my mind. Luckily pano is not serious at all. In the words of my grandmother, "she'll have some tsuris, but she'll be fine." ## Romi (admin) · 2008-03-25T14:36:48.000Z Did you guys get Ahi checked out today???  How did everything go?  Is she ok??? ## okiron · 2008-03-25T17:18:35.000Z According to AIM, he's not back yet lol. ## hondru (moderator) · 2008-03-25T18:12:54.000Z Well, I finally got to see this video while I was in town using faster internet.  Rakka has walked like that for short periods of time as well, but it never lasted long enough or seemed to cause her any discomfort, so I haven't worried too much about it.  She still runs and jumps like crazy on her walks and she hasn't done it in ages.  Interesting to learn that about Aibo, though.  It's nice having such a closeknit community of shikoku owners because I feel really in touch with what goes on with Rakka's siblings! ## brada1878 (admin) · 2008-03-25T18:14:21.000Z Hi guys - well we got back from the vet and it appears the issue is in at least one of Ahi's knees. The vet was able to "pop" them out of place. She has referred us to a specialist in Colorado Springs, CO... So we will make that 4+ hour drive next week to see what they have to say. She wasn't willing to come out as suggest a particular diagnosis? I assume if it was LP she would be comfortable enough to diagnose that right? I mean, I guess that is a good thing since they don't specialize in orthopedics, but it is a bit frustrating. Our vet in ATL has not responded to me yet, she may be on vacation or something. I did speak to the owner of Ahi's brother (Mark) and he confirmed that Aibo (Ahi's brother) was diagnosed with Pano, but he has had a lot of mixed diagnosis from various vets. That's about all I know at this point.
