So Ryu has been having a bout of diarrhea the past couple of days so instead of cooping himself up in the kennel, we decided to let him stay in the bathroom while we're at work (just in case he can't hold it, he doesn't have to lay in it all day). Well, today, I get home and discover that he indeed couldn't hold it. BUT the kicker is that instead of just staying on the other side of the bathroom, he somehow reached the brand new roll of toilet paper on the counter and tore pieces of it off and COVERED HIS POOP. I mean, there were two distinct piles of poop completely covered by toilet paper. I took pictures for Tim but I'll spare you the gross evidence. Can you believe that?!

poor little man... he was so upset he made a mess he covered it up. that's kinda sweet - gross subject - but sweet!

Seriously. That is gross, but how amazing is that? I would want to give him a giant hug. He's such a good boy. On a side note, is it me or does it seem like a lot of dogs are getting diarrhea right now? Perhaps its always like that and for some reason people are just posting about right now?

Well, since we are on the gross subject... its very clear to us from dog experiences --- they absolutely do not want to soil the space where they live or where their owner lives. So, when the unavoidable occurs from time to time as described above, it makes total sense to me the doggie would try to "cover it up" (as it were) with T. P. For example, the one time we had a complaint from a neighbor about Josephine barking, we had left her on the screen porch when a puppy (concrete floor = easy to clean) while we went out for a late-night beer and burger. I don't recall exactly the circumstances, but we were either not yet in a routine with her and vice versa, or she had the runs. Anyway, apparently she barked almost the entire time we were gone, and she had pooped on the floor. The barking was either the unanswered signal to us she had to go, and/or the distress over having gone in an inappropriate space (in her mind). On the frequency of the runs, here's my theory. No matter your level of diligence, it seems impossible to keep these dogs from consuming things we would not like them to ingest.so I think its a natural consequence of being a dog. But like everyone else, my hubby and I worry about it, and run with her to the vet if its not cured within 24-36 hours with the rice/boiled meat concoction. I expect with spring and summer opening up her world to more of this wierd stuff, we will have some more bouts with Josephine just like last summer when she was at the height of her "puppyhood" tasting of everything she encountered.
