Tosca had a bath tonight. I want her to smell lovely and look her best for our visitors who are arriving next week. I tried to make the experience as pleasant as possible; we went out and played in the falling snow for about a half hour before coming in. Once we got in, I tried to get it over with as quickly as possible but, as you can see, it wasn't quick enough for someone.

Mercutio and I had a shower the other day and he was not a happy puppy. Shampoo was fine, he was chilled but rinsing included trying to climb walls and all sorts!

LOL. Hey, at least her tail is up! Lucy and Joey's tails are always down when they get a batch. I have to get in with them or they will freak out completely. Lucy usually tries to escape for the first 30 seconds and then lets out an audible sigh before just burying her head in my crotch as if to say "let's just get this over with". (And before you people with your mind in the gutter say anything...yes I have a bathing suit or at least boxers on :-P).

L O L !!!! Those are great pictures... she's so cute!!! Keiko HATES the bathtub too... but she'll endure it. She gets bathed more than I would like because she has this habit of soiling her travel crate - ONLY on the way home from the vet. I honestly believe it's the anal thermometer that gets her... ummm... motivated... or whatnot, because she's amazing on every other car trip we take! Maybe it's stress too ... but she loves the vet and vet staff :o) Our first bath ever... we have the same thought in our head "OMG that SUCKED!" (She's sooooo teeny!!! I haven't looked at that picture in forever!!!)

Awww, baby Keiko! So freaking cute. Bathtime is horrendus in my house. So bad, I can't even get pictures.

Tosca is so good at looking miserable for the camera. What a ham.

Beebe and bathtime, the other day she was terrible. She did the full "I'm being murdered" baby brat howl and ki yi yied the entire time.

Dave: good to know!

This is from right after we got Jazz - no howling or screaming, just abject misery. We now use just a shower attachment and it is much better! [image no longer available: Jazz.jpg]

these pics are great! hahaha. torture. I'm absolutely delighted that shibas don't need bathing more than maybe once or twice a year. We bath fosters during their first few days and we bathe our own when needed or when they are blowing coat to help it along. thats it. and they don't smell! heaven. Does everyone get the post bath SHAKIES and ZOOMIES?

## KFontaine04 · 2008-12-17T11:45:09.000Z
I love shiba shakes and zoomies

## mike_t · 2008-12-17T11:47:04.000Z
LOL...LJ, make Jazz all white and that is EXACTLY the look I get from Remy when he gets a bath!!

## brandon_w (admin) · 2008-12-17T11:48:35.000Z
I don't think there are any Shibas that don't shake and zoom after a bath.

## ljowen123 (moderator) · 2008-12-17T11:49:25.000Z
Jazz doesn't do the shake or the zoomies - she just lays in my lap for the towel massage!

## tsukitsune (moderator) · 2008-12-17T11:55:57.000Z
nahahaha brandon. owned.

## brandon_w (admin) · 2008-12-17T11:58:07.000Z
Jazz is an enigma.

## ljowen123 (moderator) · 2008-12-17T11:58:18.000Z
Well, y'know, Jazz merely looks like a shiba - inside she's a completely different breed - something that cuddles and wants to be in your lap all the time.

## asia · 2008-12-17T12:39:07.000Z
Poor Shiba's! They look so much smaller when they are wet!

## tobyshiba · 2008-12-17T12:43:50.000Z
hmm, Toby tries to escape, but he just gives up with no whines or anything. :D

## lindsayt · 2008-12-17T13:03:58.000Z
The zoomies are the only part about bathing the shibas enjoy. Even Ike will do a little zoomie and shake after a bath. I guess I bathe more frequently than 1-2 times a year. Beebe always smells like feet and is grimey as she gets into everything and the allergies and chronic licking give her a spectacular bouquet after about 4 weeks.

Ike is a real metrosexual. He visits the salon every week so he's always spiffy and gets a pedicure at the same time. What a beef cake.

## KFontaine04 · 2008-12-17T13:08:33.000Z
HA HA. Miso actually does okay in the bath, He gives me a pitiful look though. Sake HATES the bath beyone belief. She screams and thrashed and jumps and claws. I think it's easier to wash my cat than it is to give Sake a bath. Being a puppy Sake gets into things so I give her a bath about once a month. Miso is pretty metrosexual too, doesn't like being dirty and loves lookin' good, so he gets a bath once a month too. I think he struts around afterward going "look how good I look, all clean and fresh!"

Just curious, but what doggie shampoo does everyone use?

## tsukitsune (moderator) · 2008-12-17T13:21:40.000Z
right now we've been working through a bottle of avoderm oatmeal shampoo

## ljowen123 (moderator) · 2008-12-17T13:22:37.000Z
I use Johnson's baby shampoo - it's what I used on my husky, too.

## asia · 2008-12-17T13:25:35.000Z
Can you use the Johnson's soothing Baby shampoo with Lavender? Or would that irritate their skin? (I was trying to remember the list of things harmful to dogs too...)

## ljowen123 (moderator) · 2008-12-17T13:29:45.000Z
I don't use the lavender one, just the plain old, been around forever, no tears baby shampoo.

## KFontaine04 · 2008-12-17T13:30:55.000Z
I use the baby shampoo too. I have an oatmeal shampoo for dogs as well, can't remember what brand. I like the baby shampoo though, good suds, good clean and no tears! Still screams though.

## tobyshiba · 2008-12-17T14:06:56.000Z
I use this awesome doggy shampoo. :0 Makes Toby smell like Papaya. mmm. He smells sooo good after his bath.

## lindsayt · 2008-12-17T14:34:35.000Z
I have a medicated rinse EpiSooth for Beebe. Soemtimes we use BuddyWash or Hylyte.

Because I am trying to show Ike, I can't use anything that softens his coat. Biogroom, Plush Puppy and Cherry Hill make texturizer rinses and some other products but I haven't really had an oppurtunity to use these yet (they make the dogs extra plush and poofy).

In general though, for everybody, you should spritz the dog with water or a non-softening conditioner/finishing spray mixed with water before and during brushing to avoid breaking hair or shredding the outer coat. It makes shedding a little more managable. It really makes a difference with the grooming and the dogs will shine, not to mention it is easier to comb a conditioned coat.

I LOVE post bath shiba psych out! LJ we will have to give Niko a bath sometime for you to experience it. So much easier to bathe outside! Still one of my fave pics, Niko and a shiba friend at daycare. The ONLY dogs to NOT go in the pool.

## Ryu · 2008-12-17T22:48:46.000Z
Ryu hates getting a bath but will only whine now. He doesn't really scream too much, only if we're taking too long for his liking :) We use Earthbath Mango Tango and LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. We also spray him down with the conditioning spray if he smells a little musky :)
