Couch monsters

edited August 2008 in General
Here are a couple of pictures I took yesterday. They all like to jump on top of the couch, even after I have been saying no for months, but they have taken over and I let them. I am a sucker for those faces. I have my house up for sale currently and when I do sell this couch will be going in the basement and the next one I get I will have a figure a way to get them from stop jumping and destroying that one. Does anyones else's pups do the same thing?

Excuse the ebay titles again....they are NOT for sale ;-)

If I told Mylie she couldn't be on the furniture, she'd laugh at me. I think she'd actually, physically laugh at me. I bought her a bed, a really awesome comfy bed, hoping she'd sleep there instead of the couch, but she only likes the bed when it's cold out; the rest of the time, enjoys the top of the couch. Which I also find strange. She also feels she has to be near me, in my face, at all times, so if I'm on the furniture, so is she. Usually up on top, licking my face from above. I have sucessfully taught her to stay off the furniture when she's wet though...
As far as she's concerned, what's her's is her's and what's mine is her's. I suppose it's all part of being a Shiba owner.

**Edit** Maybe it's because there's a better view from up there?!? Now that I think about it, do any other breeds do this?

My shiba wont even lay next to me...unless its in the middle of the night....and shes cold. She will NEVER sit next to me or on my lap during the day time. She prefers my husband though over me so maybe she just doesn't like me. lol.

Don't feel bad. If Nemo comes and sits by me I instantly think something is wrong with him. There are a lot of Shibas who prefer their own space.

Sometimes I go lay on the floor to play with Nemo and then he jumps up on the couch, jerk.

The dogs aren't allowed on my couch or chairs - they get an emphatic NO when they try. My bed is free game though.

I'm with LJ. No Pups on the couch! Mika does try to put her behind on the couch and keep her front paw on the floor, but that doesn't fly either. My husband does allow the dogs on the bed....not a fan. There's never any room for me!!!!

LOVE you'r pix though. Especially with Kangai on the back of the couch.

I think they think they are cats and they can sleep on the back of the couch. Kangai and Kenji actually fight the cats for that spot. I think someone needs to tell them they are dogs and dogs don't sleep on the back of the couch...lol.

Both my girls need to be invited on the couch or the bed. The rare times they come up they cuddle. Sasha pretty much doesnt come up anymore because I think it is too confusing to her. Niko gets very jealous when her friends come over and they jump on the couch. Niko will stare and watch for ANY indication that she is invited. The slightest move of the hand and she will jump...right onto the crotch (huh dave??). If Niko jumps without an invitation you will see her thought process going in mid jump "aww crud" and jump right back down without being told.

Lucy is a total couch monster. I don't mind her being on the couch at all. In fact, I like it. She loves the top of the couch when she can't be next to me, but its not her preferred spot. Joey likes to be on the other end of the couch from me. When he does come closer, he prefers the top of the couch. And yes, I'm guilty of inviting Niko up with a smooching noise and head tilt. She's no fool. She knows who to ask when I'm around. :-D

Great video Jamie! Keira certainly is the queen bee. Poor Kenji is like, "Oh, this again? Let's just get it over with." :-)

lol roxy isn't really that bad of a couch monster she'll only get on the back of my dads couch cause it has a low back, and today and yesterday she was very lovey dovey, she hopped up on the couch and laid next to me and when I was on the computer she brought me her nyla bone and just put it in my lap and laid down, when I threw it *cause thats what she normally want* she just looked up at me and put her head on my lap so I picked her up and she fell asleep in my lap it was really weird.

Wow is she the boss around that house. Those little Shiba females sure can take charge.

I love the video --- Kenji seems to be extremely tolerant (and then maybe a bit bored with the Queen?)... Cute video, cute doggies! And Kangai is amazing --- how can such a big dog sit so gracefully on the couch back? What a beautiful pup!

As for the couch thing, no dogs allowed on the furniture here, and I have had the rule forever. Although now my (adult) children confess that our previous dog, Joe, was allowed to sleep on their beds, climb on the couch, etc. whenever I wasn't around the house. I guess he knew I disapproved, because I never ever saw it, not even one time in 12 years! I suppose Josephine might be doing the same thing and it will come out later? Who's the queen setting the rules around here, I wonder? Amazing how dogs and humans will collude sometimes!
