Fattest Shiba Inu I have ever saw

edited January 2008 in Shiba Inu (柴犬)

I was looking around ar the shiba resue groups and I came across this 9 year old Shiba who is the fattest shiba I have ever saw! At first I say the tiny picture of her and said to myself, that is not a Shiba, it looks more like an Alaskan Malamute or something else! Then I took a look and it was! I didnt think it was possible to get that big! She topped out at 53lbs and now shes in the high 30s! Take a look!

I've met a few Shibas in the high 30's and one that pushed 60.  The one that pushed like 55 or 60 is not fat either, just the largest shiba I've ever seen (bad breeding).

I'm glad Yoshi is down in weight, seems like her previous owners were not very good owners.

WTF? How do you let your dog get that fat and not see that their is an issue w/ it?

Brad the answer is that you flat out don't care about the animal.

yea, I get that - but it makes you wonder how someone who doesn't care about animals ends up w/ a rare type of dog like a Shiba.... I mean I guess the answer is $.

I wouldn't consider Shibas rare anymore.  More and more people see Nemo and say "oh a shiba" not, "what is that?".  Well a lot more than when I first got him 3 years ago.  They have been big in pet stores for the last few years.  And they are such cute puppies, we all know how easy it is to want to take one home.  Some people don't know how much work a dog is, and then don't want to do it.

Zack is a healthy, well loved boy.  He's just a monster.

I feel bad for her. Shes already 9 years old. FrownGiving up a 9 year old shiba is so sad, or any dog for that matter. Cry When people like that get these dogs away, I dont really think they "think" ahead to how its going to be in 10 years and if I can still handle, maintain and love the dog the same as I do when they are a big cute ball of fur.

Noah and I saw a shiba in someone's yard once that was sooo fat, he was just waddling around, huffing and puffing as he went.  Yikes!

The problem is people think that because a dog is begging that they are hungry. Or worse they show their love through food. Like "I love you so much, here have a treat"

It is also why we have so many fat kids.
