Mika was super mouthy too, but has since grown out of it. She would obsessively lick people's hands. But when she turned 3, she stopped, though she occasionally does 'clean' me the way she does Keigo.

Keigo is mouthy and NEVER bites down. He'll be 3 in 8 days, so hopefully he'll grow out of it too.

Josephine ( about 14 months) is extremely interested in licking, and will sometimes try to nibble or nip. I view it as affection and puppy play. She views everyone as she meets as an object of affection, and also "puppy play" with the slightest encouragement from them. The thing is, not everyone she meets will find it acceptable. In fact, some people will be disgusted (remember Lucy... eww- dog germs!). So I am trying to teach her to respond to simple commands (like "no lick"). I found this was very effective with our other dog (put down at age 12). He too, loved to lick to show affection, but I could tell anyone who did not like it to say "no lick", and for the most part he would mind. I think his nibbling/nipping tendency diminished around age 3 or so, too.

Our intact males do this all the time, they do that silly little fast nibble thing on us and the other dogs.

Also, all of our pups are rather mouthy... seems like a Nihon-Ken trait.
