Here she is. lol, she looks so big in the first pic I posted but now you see her real size. by the way, the dog in the background is Cobalt, my new foster dog.
Supposedly Dobies are to Pinschers an mini Pinschers as Giant Schnauzers are to Standard and Mini Schnauzers, giant versions. And there seems to be a close relation between the Pincher side and the Schnauzer side. Schnauzers appear to be pinschers with coarse/hard hair. There are a few behavioural difference too, but they're very closely related.
It's kind of a mystery what breeds Ludwig Dobermann used to get to the Dobie, since he had so many available. The ones that seem to get more mentioned are the Pinscher (for temperament), the Great Dane (for size), some mention the Rott (I suppose for clearer markings). But it's a mystery and one that's likely to remain a mystery. The only thing that is known is that the man wanted a dog that would protect him from thieves, since he was a tax collector, and he got one of the best breeds to do just that. Well, if you look at some Dobies now, you wouldn't exactly say that, but ok...
My sig has been there for quite a while now. I put it up shortly after I joined. you're not crazy, you just didn't notice. happens to all.
As for the relationship between the three pinschers, the pinscher that is believed to have been used in the creation of the doberman is the german pinscher, not the miniature. the min pin and the dobie are not related, it's not a 'miniature dobie' contrary to popular belief. another breed which was used in the dobie's creation is the Manchester Terrier, which looks similar to the min pin.

I really like Dobies too.

She's not a dobie, she's a german pinscher. she's actually pretty small. I'll post a pic of her next to me.
And you just added your sig right? That wasn't there when we all thought she was a dobie? Tell me I'm not going crazy! :-/
Dave - the sig was there on the first post. :-P
