Grooming for the Shiba
I take Jake to the groomer, always have, once very 2.5 months or so. A groomer I have known for years and who kept my yokie/westie groomed for years. I always asked her to make him look like a scottie, I liked that.
Anyway, she is well-versed in the Shiba, having a mother who raised them for years. "Why did you get a Shiba" and my reasons explained. I could tell she was not truly fond of them
In any event, she is growing to love Jake, or at least accept the fact that I have one and she will be his groomer. At the same time, I can sense she knows he is not the type of Shiba she has known for the years her mother raised them. Her thought process has changed with Jake.
I wanted him to be nice and groomed for our meetup tomorrow and to rid of all excess hair. He hasn't yet 'blown his coat' but seems to shed a hair here and there.
Beforehand, we went to petstuff to purchase some 'greenies' that he loves. Every time I pass the cupboard he stops as if to say 'anything for me?' I pull out a pigs ear, or another treat and he is so disappointed so I knew I needed some greenies. Before the groomer we went to PetStuff and got some so he will be pleased when I pick him up. He loves them. Anywho, while at PetStuff, a woman stopped me and inquired about Jake, with full interest, noting she only has 'rescues'. I briefly explained the breed and how they are not for everyone, but at the same time, I was glad to share and thankful for the true interest. At the same time, I always feel guilty talking to those rescue folks as if I had done the wrong thing purchasing from a breeder, but I did look and explained that to her while also letting her know that a 15 year commitment was how I looked at it and I needed the right dog for me. She understood.
I will pick Jake up at 1:00p. I don't think he needed nail clipping, doesn't grow as fast as Jazz', but they will do that do if needed.

I'm excited to see you guys tomorrow (providing I can walk). Jazz and I did our first 5k this morning on mixed surfaces. I did something to my knees/ankles - even though we finished the walk, my knees/ankles are killing me. I've taken my meds, but the pain hasn't lessened. Jazz's nails were ground last week and she's due again - it was my intention to do it this afternoon - doesn't look like it's happening.
I hope you feel better. Do let us know.

In fact, after our two rescues are a couple years older, we're considering purchasing either a Kai Ken or another Shiba from a breeder. I feel no guilt in making that decision.. whether the future will allow it is another thing, but I'm staying positive!
Great dogs can come from responsible breeders and rescue!
I'm sure Jake looked incredibly handsome after his pampering!
E-I've emailed you my number - it's at the bottom of my email - as Dave suggested we need to plan a meetup on another weekend. I'm assuming that you guys probably live closer to one another since that's how you found out about the meetup group. Let me know where to meet on your side of town and I'll be there.
