Kris - Yes, Loa plays fetch pretty well, I would say she brings the toy back about 75% of the time, Ahi is the same way... tho they get bored with the game pretty fast. Our other dogs suck at fetch, they bring it back about 5% of the time.
Hah! Your other Japanese dogs sound like my Siberians - fetch was way TOO BORING!
I would say that Kuma brings back the toy about 90% of the time, but that it has to be the right toy (ie, a Kong that bounces funny so he has to change direction to get it). A rope toy (like you were using) would probably only be retrieved at the 75% rate like Loa and Ahi! I think he likes the fact that Kongs bounce in erratic ways and they move fast once they hit the ground. Maybe it is the chasing/hunting instinct coming out on Shikas!
The best way I have found to tire him quickly is to have 2 Kongs and as soon as he comes back with one, throw the other in the opposite direction so he really has to run. That keeps him interested in the game. LOL.

So does Loa love playing fetch? My Kuma does and I was wondering if it may be a Shikoku trait b/c my Siberians never played fetch.
