My friend sends me this website a week or so ago that featured a Shiba. Had some kill time today so visited the site and clicked on the tab that read 'puppies for sale' and of course had to look for Shibas.

It literally made me sick. I couldn't believe what was being advertised and how I could visualize some of the puppies being treated -- not to mention the adults for sale that persons are tired of and wanting to get rid of. It is more than my heart can take so I just can't look.

I give to the humane society, help financially with fosters, don't visit pet stores, but the fraud continues. I'm just not big enough to help all in need and to stop all the abuse. All I can do is provide the best for the one dog I have knowing he's with me til the end.

Aww that australian shepherd is gorgeous. Yeah it sucks that no matter what you do, pet shops will always be a booming business. You don't have to deal with a breeder, the hassle of waiting, just see a puppy, pay and go. All you could do is try to educate as many people as you can.

It drains me, it truly drains me. I read 'our puppies are brought up in our loving home' and I see the pictures and their faces and get the stomach churning of mental neglect -- pictures of them outdoors, not a part of the family, pictures of them longing to be with the human that built their world. When I visited the humane society 2 years ago, my tears flowed, I just can't take it. The sadness and my heart breaks knowing I just can't save all those created without regard by others -- at least not physically but again, try financially when I can. As for getting the word out, I don't know any of these type people personally. All my friends/acquaintances/colleagues are not that way.

that is why even though recently it feels like i'd sleep better if I just hang up my hat and be done.. Even some rescues are starting to be more beaurocratic business than non profit safe havens.. anymore I feel like I have to jump through hoops for anyone in the non profit sector and that makes me want to scream! Its not helping the cause, man! Because you can see these poor dogs on like 'next day pets . com' or whatever those websites are.. then those are the dogs you'll probably see on petfinder in a few years once the novelty wore off.. its a vicious cycle!

and those websites & petstores that promote the sale of puppies are killing the integrity of what a healthy, lifelong pet should be..

And Rina is right! Just little by little, educating people is the only thing that will save tomorrow's money making animals.. one person at a time.. if you can convince just ONE person to not shop at a dog selling pet store or those website puppy shipping machines or volunteer at a shelter.. just ONE person - thats all the difference in the world.

This is my favorite quote when I just feel like I'm not doing enough or not getting anywhere:
"If you think you're too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room."
