Koda takes flight
I’ve already had Mochi get off the leash, so I guess it was only a matter of time before it was Koda’s turn. I had a nice scare this morning when I noticed one of the leashes dragging behind the pups. Clearly I over reacted, because by the time I swooped down to grab the wee one, she had already figured out that all of my boring rules were no longer enforceable. Oh what great fun.
She shot off like a lighting bolt and started to prance down the middle of the street. I don’t know why they always make for the middle of the street, but it never fails. Maybe the plan is to give me a heart attack and go home and eat my breakfast before anybody figures out I’ve gone missing. Anyway, thank god it’s 5 am and there aren’t any cars. First order of business, Moach and I chase her the rest of the way across the street. This went well, and for the moment it was starting to look as if little miss puppy-for-brains might not wind up as road kill after all. Now to close the deal.
I reached for my trusty bait bag (don’t leave home without it) and intentionally crinkled the plastic bag therein. This got her attention. Out came the treats and then Koda froze in her tracks. I called her; she looked at me but did not come running. Not good. We’ve got a problem here, she wants the treats but she is smart enough to know that she’s going to get them in the end anyway. Why not have some fun and make the fat man sweat a little bit first? I can see the wheels spinning in her furry little head. She knows what an opportunity looks like, and this is clearly an opportunity.
Thankfully, the wheels in my furry little head are also spinning quite frantically. As I study the situation I happen to glance down at the other end of the occupied lead and there is Mochi looking right back at me. Bright eyed and bushy tailed he has already decided that we’re going for a run this morning, however he too is conflicted. The treat in my hand is competing for his attention as well.
At this point I realized that I’ve got more than a captive audience and a hand full of nitrate laden meat. In fact, I’m holding the trump card. “Oh, dear me” I mused “who shall help me eat all these delicious treats?” I gave Moach a piece of jerky and Koda’s eyes got as big as pie plates. Sibling rivalry had reared its ugly head. A couple more morsels and Koda came running for her fair share of the goodies. The whole ordeal was over in less then two minutes and everybody went away happy.

I'm happy you got your bearings and dog back safely!! great narrative!
I enjoyed the narrative as well.
Whenever a Shiba has gotten loose on me, I have a few seconds of sheer panic before I can get my thoughts together on what to do.
So glad that everything ended safely.
but for me Im lucky most the time when I walk my dog I put on my roller hockey skates and my dogs either right beside me or a little behind me.
Only reason why I decided to use the skate is becuase my dog doesnt get too tired when he walk, so if i I skate I can go at a much faster pace and in 20-30 minutes I can have my dog tired.
and we all know a tired shiba is a good shiba!!!
