Bed Wetting?...

Not sure if this is health or behavior related any advice would be appreciuated. Scheduling a Vet visit for hopefully sometime next week.

Akira sometimes and more frequently lately will Pee himself while sleeping. Almost like he cannot hold it fully while sleeping. It doesn't come rushing out it comes out it in drops. So if i left him sleeping for an hour or two he will wake up soaking and licking himself and look around all like what just happened. I saw him two nights ago on the hardwood in about 5- 10 minute his dink was wet and maybe total of a Quarter size pool under him.

Question is anyone seen this before or heard of it? Do you think it is an infection or health issue? Or training? He doesn't pee around the house while awake he always goes outside. Will he outgrow out if so?

I don't think its anything to be overly concerned about; however, getting it checked is probably a good idea.

How old is he? Incontinence is not a typical issue for Shibas, but it does occur in dogs. It can be a muscle development thing that causes it or it can be caused by a complicating medical issue like an infection. Incontinence is treatable (and even curable in most cases) by determining the cause and administering the appropriate medication. If its an infection that is causing it, anti-biotics can help. If it is pure incontinence without an underlying medical event, there are drugs he could take that will help the problem as well.

I have some friends who's dog is incontinent. I can ask them for information if you'd like me to.

Depending on how old he is I would get it checked out my shiba Koda did that up til 3 months and now he doesnt do it anymore just avoid letting him sleep on stuff that is expensive and let him sleep on stuff that is easy to clean up. Make sure you clean up very good and give them a bath as soon as possible.

    Sure that would be great.

He is pretty young still - 9 months.

It is a more recent thing with him.

I've had experience with this. It was a problem for about a year. I can't really remember, but oddly enough, it ended just after I posted it to this forum around February. Mika is now Four, so she's also fairly young for such an issue. It was just a little dribbling overnight....just a few dots....but still a pain.

My doctor suggested that we withold water just before bed. It did work, but I really didn't follow it for very long. Then one day, it just stopped. I have no idea why.
