Romi, I used your example to convince my husband to microchip Hachi. Kitsune's chip migrated and it was a major hassle and I felt really bad, since he hates the vet anyway and all the stuff we had to do to rectify the chip.. but this is a worst fear realized. I'm so glad he's back!
I guess some pets feel the need to live up to their name! Although it still really puzzles me why Ninja would run. He is really not the type to do that, he was never really a door bolter - even when the gate was open sometimes - he would never go to it or try to run out. He is always by my side and is pretty close by even off leash. Oh well - I just have to keep my eye on him at all times.
Well, he is definately trying to keep off his front left paw. I haven't walked him because he is limping and I don't think walking him would help at all. I couldn't find Musher's Secret anywhere local - so I stopped by the local walgreens and picked up some Bag Balm. I remember people mentioning it for rough paws. I also ordered the Musher's Secret online, so I should get it next week. Other than that - he seems to be back to normal. Portia is trying her best to get him to play with her - and I know he wants to play - but since his paws are sore, he just rolls on his back and lets her attack him! Its pretty cute.
Brandon - do you know how long it should take for his paws to recover? maybe 1 week or 2? Im just wondering because if he keeps on limping for a while, Im thinking something else might be causing it and would take him to the vet asap to get it checked out again.
OMG - I'm so glad everything turned out ok! That is one of my worst fears, for sure - I'm so relieved for you and for Ninja that he found his way home!
I would say if he is still limping after 4-5 days you might want to call the vet to see if they would recommend getting x-rays to check for stress fractures or something.
However the hard part about healing up paws, is that well, they have to be used all the time still, so they might not heal as quick as other cuts or scrapes a dog might get.
I agree with Brandon....get Ninja checked out...usually dogs that go all out running may be a bit sore for a day or two but not usually this long. Who knows who he had to spar with to get that bone or what he had to dodge on the way back home. Better to be safe and find out what's up.
Well Ninja isn't limping anymore. I have been applying the wax 2x daily. He seems to be fine now. Although when applying the wax - I can feel/see where the scrapes are and they seem kind of deep. They don't seem to be bothering him though, he isn't licking his paws anymore. I started taking him on short 20 minute walks instead of the full 45 minutes and he seems to be doing fine on those. I think I will keep doing that for another week and go back to our regular routine next week.
