kick?! Oo

i just noticed that Kiba randomly throws a quick back kick or at least it seems like a kick, and in some cases she throws a series of 2 to 4 Oo. this is normal in the Kais (and all the nihon-kens)?

PS: pictures update coming soon! =)

Is this after a poop or pee? Dogs have scent glands in their rear pads, so sometimes they "mark" extra with those.

However if it is random/indoors/after running around, I'd be a bit concerned about Kiba's knee.

I'm torn at what to tell you, Kitsune does this after he potties whereas indoors Tsuki will do it when she's just walking, running, playing or after a nap, she has grade 1 LP.

Yeah, LP was my first thought. :-(

it almost seems as though its more common in Nihon Ken than is commonly known.

Yea, LP was my first thought too -tho Kai are not very prone to LP. I hope its not LP.

It seems we thought of the same thing.
Unless she does it right after she does her business, you should probably take her to the vet and get her knee checked. I also hope it's not LP.

i took Kiba to the vet his morning. she said that she doesnt see nothing abnormal or strange. but i might keep an eye on her. the other part of the story is that the vet spotted dryness and dandruff on kibas skin, and also some swelling surrounding the eyes. she said it may be mange, im still waiting for the call and lets see what she says. :/

Kohji had all of those skin issues too when he was a pup. I got him from Marion too. It went away after a couple of years, now that I have him on really good food and fish oil. I feed Nature's Variety raw(all diff types) and Wellness Core Oceanfish Formula kibble. Before I knew anything about dog foods I had him on Eukanuba Premium Performance and he was greasy, with dandruff and brittle nails until I switched his food. Now he looks amazing!

The skin issue thing is indicative of the breed, they grow out of it- as Kelly pointed out. Its really strange.

vet said: i have to give Kiba some vitamin E capsules for a couple of weeks, and mix raw food with the dry one. that should improve her coat. and like i said she didnt saw anything strange with her knees so shes healthy =)

Give fish oil with the vitamin E. Vitamin E and omega's work together to help each of them be absorbed efficently. Vitamin E is also stored in fat so after giving it to Kiba for a couple weeks straight you can probably slow it down to one pill a week.

    fish oil:
we were using this one on top of the kibble: http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/product_detail.asp?pf_id=20338201&dept_id=9&brand_id=805

    but we use capsules now.

The capsules are the ones made for humans. You can get them at pharmacies.

If your dog wont eat the capsule, you can use the liquids, but they tend to cost more.

You can puncture the capsules and drizzle over the food, also.

The spray is more expensive, the caps work, puncturing them works too.
Do research on the correct dosing of fish oil per day/week/month etc. for Roxy's poundage.

we ended up giving them whole capsules most days b/c it seemed redundant to pour them on the raw meats, etc. But when they get a blend of organs or whatever, we do puncture the caps into the mix.
