Kennel Club show at Kutztown ( with some photos )

edited September 2008 in General
I was thinking of going along, its right on the Kutztown Fairgrounds, which is practically walking distance for me. :)

Think there would be any Shiba Inu there? :0
I was thinking that it might be fun to just take Toby over and walk around/check out the showing. I've never been to a dog show, ever. I've only watched them on tv. :(

oh, thanks! I didn't see that. xD

Wow! It is also right next to me too (about 2 miles away). Unfortunately I will be busy from 9 am till about 1:30 or 2 pm on Sunday. Maybe I will run over in the afternoon and watch.

If anyone wants to meet a Shikoku, I will be home in the afternoon and live only a few miles from the Kutztown showgrounds.

Waaait, you live a few miles from the Kutztown fairgrounds?! I'm attending Kutztown University!

    I wanna see Kuma! :)
Except Toby and I will probably go in the morning ( 8:30am ) to see the Shibas get judged. Don't know what i'm doing the rest of the day.

Tobyshiba - if you are not busy in the afternoon and are interested, we can meet up in Kutztown (maybe at the park) or at my farm in Fleetwood. Not sure if you have a car or not (some college students do, some don't).

Brad - anytime you are in SE PA (within an hour of Philly) you can come see Kuma !

I felt totally stupid, so I emailed the chairperson of the show. ... are dogs generally allowed at dog shows? To visit? xD

I've never been to a dog show before, so I have no clue!

i have no clue, i've only been to one dog show sans dog, but that was because my friend's cairn was in it!

if I wasn't swamped with work this weekend I would have totally driven down! To meet toby and kuma!

Sometimes dog are allowed, sometimes not. If you can find the detailed judging program, it should be in there. If there are more on the local side, you can usually bring one in - the larger ones get a bit more formal.

I mean, its on the fairgrounds, so I would assume its outside. They're also having a Microchipping Clinic at the show. xD

Ljowen is correct, some dog shows allow it, some do not.

My camera battery died while I was taking photos, so I don't have as many as I would've liked! :( Maybe at the next show? I mostly wanted to see the Shibas, but it was interesting seeing all the breeders and handlers talking about each other's dogs, and cheering one another on. The French Bulldog owners were lined up early, and they were all around talking. Very nice people! The Shiba show-ers came right when it was there time to show, and then just disappeared. I was glad that the Bulldog owners were early and were willing to talk to everyone.

I might go back later ( for the larger show ) but for now ... i'm sleepy. It started getting really hot there!
I'm pretty sure that the Frerose Kennels Shiba won.

The guy didn't seem very excited, took his ribbon and just walked off without talking to anyone. :(

... we got there an hour early, so I wandered around and got a Shiba figure and a little magnetic I heart my Shiba Inu ribbon. :)

    Awesome Spam Steph!

    I want that Shiba figurine D< ~

I want that figureine too!!! I have no idea what I would do with it... but I want it! LOL :o)

Great pictures - it's a shame about those Shiba showers not wanting to talk... maybe scared of people getting Shiba's without knowing what they're getting into? (or maybe just being weirdo dog showers.... no offense to anyone who shows!)

*random thought... shower? show-er? ... dog showers ... just looks weird...

lol I read it as showers...you know, like baths. :) ~

LOL I had to look it up too!

    n. One that shows: a shower of thoroughbred horses; a shower of great affection.

Well, I did get to talk to some French Bulldog owners. Not that it will help me, but a new person entered their puppy French bulldog into the show, and the other breeders told her she was worth showing, and helped point out grooming issues and what to fix for next time. Its obvious to see that these people were not in it for the money, but obviously want to help one another. :)

But, I was so disappointed when the 4 Shiba handlers just got their ribbons and flew the coop. I was expecting the winner to stay behind and chat ( like all the other winners had been doing ). I really wanted to at least say hello to the dude in charge of Frerose Kennels, the Shiba there today that won, its been the #1 Shiba from 2004 to 2008. But, I guess he just didn't stay behind/feel excited because I guess he knows his Shiba is the best and probably is just stacking up the best of breed wins.

when we were thinking about shibas, we went to a shiba meetup and then a dog show near White Plains, NY. The Shiba people at the dog show were SO RUDE! one was posing for a picture, then afterwards packing up some stuff and we were like "can we ask you some questions, we're considered the shiba inu..." and he cuts us off and was like "then do some research". Well, dude, thats precisely what I WAS doing.. it was unreal. But the meetup people were great and we learned a lot about shibas that day - from owners, not the silly stuck up show people.

great pics though - I love little Frenchies! I bet they were adorable!!

haha. Yeah, i'm hoping if I ever get into showing someday, that I'm not like that.

Only one of the Shiba handlers talked to us, cause my dad asked how old her Shiba was. But, I thought it was kinda rude of my dad to ask her stuff right then and there. They were in the middle of showing! :( She seemed nice. Maybe she was one of the better ones, considering she 'chatted' with us in the middle of her showing.

But, I guess the Shiba breeders/handlers couldn't care less. I bet if I had asked the guy that won, he probably would've been just as rude. Dx
I know that these shows are for the dogs to get winnings and titles and stuff, but they don't need to be rude and grumpy. If you tell people interested in the Shiba Inu to just 'do some research', then you can be sure that they will do some seriously shitty research, and most likely NOT want to buy from the breeder who showed because they realized how rude they were to them or something.

I'm losing serious faith in Shiba breeders in the US.
