Holiday Toy/Treat Exchange?!

edited September 2008 in General
Is anyone interested in having a Holiday Toy/Treat Gift Exchange among forum members?

If you are, list the names of the pups (or cats, too I guess!) that want to participate and I can pair up everyone that responds for the exchange. Also list any allergies or important info about the dog/cat.

I figure as its September and everyone is super busy, this will give us enough time to organize and get and send Holiday treats to other forum members.

Maybe we can have a $10 price range/limit for toys and/or treats per pup, excluding shipping and handling. And say they should arrive on or around December 15th? Afterward, we can post pics or a comment about what we received and how great it is :)

NOTE: This *will* entail providing your address (in whisper form to your exchange buddy), so if you aren't comfortable with this, keep that in mind!

Let me know what you all think! Thanks!

I think this is a fun idea! I think $10 is kinda low... well for me... we don't seem to find quality toys for less that about $10 a piece in my area... and I like to spoil people ;o)

Well for me with two or three participants, I think $10 is about my limit, esp. during holiday time...

Maybe we can have $10 as the base price and its your call to exceed that or not?! :)

I think this is a wonderful idea! However, I do think there should be a price cap. Maybe take a vote on what it should be? I know I would feel bad if I got someone a $10 gift, and in turn I received something much more than that.

Also, do you think it ought to be more like secret santa, or just drawing names?

    Ohh! Fun!

Well, I can wait to see what more people want to do regarding the price cap - I'm sticking with $10 as my max if I have 2+ dogs to buy for.

If you want to do it more secretly, you can all whisper addresses to me (or whoever wants to be in charge of it) and I'll in turn pair up secretly and only whisper the address of the receiving end to the person on the giving end, etc. Will that work?

Count me in! I think this will be very fun! It would be nice to know if there are particular items that you will not let your pet have (like greenies).

ooo. I might be interested. I'd have to come home one weekend sometime before christmas and mail it out and go back to college to finish up the semester. :0

I would definitely agree that there needs to be a cap suggestion, but not to freak out if you receive more than $10 worth. I'll only be buying for one dog, so I'm probably going to spend more. I like the idea of a secret santa more than a direct exchange.

    I'm not going to be upset if someone spends more on me or not. n___n;

I'd probably go over a 10 dollar cap, anyways.

I would still love to do this - and I can try very hard to stay right around $10... ish... ;o)

well if we agree on more than $10 per pup, I'll have to bow out, but I'll still help organize.
I just did a toy exchange with a $10 limit and found lots of cool little stuff - like on etsy.com - and thankfully was able to maintain the cap.

I forgot about etsy - I'll do some searching now, while I'm twiddling my thumbs.

I think $10 is manageable - I just remembered there's a lady who makes some nice stuff down at the Saturday street market!

I don't think I should join in. Just the shipment me and my possible buddy would be paying is way over that limit. :-)

I'm not including shipping costs in the cap. Maybe, people should include whether they are comfortable with doing international shipments (Jen - if that is cool - I'm fine on doing international)

i'm fine with it - i know there are members across the waters and I hope as many as able will participate! more fun!
I know shipping can be bothersome, so thats why if the toy/treat cap is close to $10, or a $10-15 range, than shipping won't be a killer. Plus if we only get maybe two toys and a treat or something small, the weight of shipping won't be so bad.

---> ***If you want to participate, please include the following:

-Dog's name (specify as each dog participating separately or as a family unit)
-Dog's chew / toy level (adult, puppy)
-Any allergies/sensitivities/toys or treats you do NOT prefer
-Any other limitations (where you can/can't ship to, etc)

When all the participants have posted (by the end of September?) I will ask them to whisper/email me their mailing address and I will assign each participant another participant. The receiver will not know who the giver will be until the gift is received. $10-15 price cap, shipping not included in cap.

    Sound good?

OK! If you want to be a participant - post here: http://www.nihonken.org/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=2031

If you have other comments or concerns, post below.

THANKS!! I hope everyone participates! The more the merrier!

Ack... I hadn't considered the puppy/adult toy thing originally... Keiko is going to be right at the 6 month 'turning' point... as far as loosing teeth and getting fixed. I know you're not supposed to let dogs with adult teeth have puppy toys (right?) so that may be an issue. Maybe someone has a suggestion for me as to how to decide what would be best for a potential santa to get her?

Thinking about it more... even if she doesn't get to play with them right away, the adult toys aren't going to like... go bad lol :o)

I would absolutely participate. And I would be happy to ship internationally.

I know around that time money is going to be beyond tight. Maternity leave and company staying for 3 months (they may want to eat). And our shiba party will probably have a gift exchange too.
Maybe next year...Baby at Christmas time is going to be a challenge...
