Dogit! Fresh and Clear Large Drinking Fountain for Dogs
Here is my experience with the Dogit! Fresh and Clear Large Drinking Fountain for Dogs.
First, I like to mention that this is the 3rd water fountain we have bought for our shibas, the first was a Drinkwell Big Dog fountain, the Second was a platinum Drinkwell fountain.
We liked the Big Dog foutain for its capacity, but it was LARGE and after some time just got messy (water splashed when they drank, water stains over time inside the unit), the platinum was a nicer fit, but simply did not hold a lot of water and suffered from the same "messy" as the big dog unit.
I first noticed the Dogit water fountain at Petsmart (list is $99.00) and I liked the capacity (the Big dog held about 2 gallons, this one holds almost 3), it was visually appealing and the size was not space consuming, you can see the design in the pic.
First impressions:
Setup is easy, pretty much clean it up and then fill it with water (3 gallons, will be a little heavy), the unit has a simple charcoal filter system, not the most sophisticated filter ever made, but it will help a little, regardless I have filtered water in the house and a pure filter on the sink to boot, so not much concern there.
After filling the tank with water and placing it on the base I forgot to let the water flow down before plugging it in...opps, no big deal, just was a little noisy, so I had to re prime it then everything was good.
What is nice about the unit it has 2 ways dogs (and cats if you want) to drink from it, from the top where the water bubbles up into a dish that overflows to the second spot they can drink from, the sides. You can turn the tank in the base so you can point where you want the "overflow" to fall towards.
Sol and Luna looked at the unit and were trying to decide what it was all about, Sol was the first to take a venture at it, he first licked the side, then looked at me as to say "oh, I get it" then he drank from the top...he seemed to enjoy it. Luna then came up to it, she looked at the top and decided to go for the sides, she seemed to like to drink from the sides more than the top, in fact, I have not seen her drink from the top yet, so it may be a preference...Sol seemed to stick to the top. The surface area where they can drink from the sides has enough overflow to let them both drink from, and the top is large enough for both as well. (a side note, Sol is about 15 inches at the withers, luna is about 13.5, and they both can reach into the top without a problem)
So as of right now I can say it seems to be doing a good job, I like the capacity, the kids like the 2 choices of drinking methods they have, and they wife (the most important) likes the size and appearance, it does look very classy.
I will update in the future with some better pictures and how the water fountain stands up through the test of time (sorry for the grain in these pics, took at night on my cell phone)
**I got the unit off of ebay for new for $55.00, I just mentioned pet smart because I saw it there first**
