Is this what it's like living with a Shiba?

My girlfriend Kristen and I are dog sitting her Cavalier for three weeks for her mom while she is away. She is a very nice dog and is very well behaved, but not remotely obedient. This dog is stubborn and is definitely used to being the boss. She does not like to do anything if it isn’t on her terms and when you ask her to do something, like move when I come back to my seat that she has snuck into when I got up, or go lay in her bed when she’s begging for food, she caulks her head and gives you this look like “you want me to do what? Umm, don’t you know I call the shots around here?” Then she turns her head and shows you the rump. She also lets out this long sigh when I actually MAKE her move…just too funny! From all the funny stuff I’ve read and all the stories I’ve heard, I swear she is a (lethargic) shiba in disguise!!

Kristen loves this dog to death and gets quite the kick out of all her quirks…maybe she is well suited for a shiba after all :)

I guess it sorta would be, minus the running around in circles for an hour part.

**Plus a dog like that is much easier to love knowing you will soon give it back to its owner. Like babysitting kids, I can't wait to give them BACK!

My shiba's run around in circles all night long until they both crash on the floor.

Read up on shiba's though, they are WONDERFUL dogs, but they do require a **special** kind of owner and attention.

Apparently this dog used to be quite hyper, but is pretty lethargic now (she's almost 12 and has an average life expectancy of 9-12 yrs!). And I've got to admit, it's gonna be hard giving her back next weekend. Eventhough I'm the only one that enforces the rules, she's been starting to follow me around everywhere and apparently has been waiting by the door for me to get home.

And yes, I have read up a TONNE on shibas...I'd take one in a heart beat, but I won't bitch anymore about why I 'cant' have one...

    Cheers
    Mike
