A Kitten Soon To Be Forgotten :-(

edited November 2008 in General
Im at work & I just had one of the most frustrating encounters (it happens all to often)

I work at a Pet Supply Store. We have no animals for sale however we do have a few cats for adoption right now.

A little girl comes in with her mother and says.

Girl - Where are the kittens? I want to buy a kitten.
Me - We dont sell kittens we have a few cats for adoption though.
Girl - No I want a kitten I already have 3 cats, I want a kitten.
Me - Wont the kitten grow up into cat in a few months though?
Girl - Yeah
Me - What will you do with it then? (Im scared now)
Girl - It'll go outside with the other of our cats I like the kittens.
Mom - She likes taking care of them when there little. Its cute. This will be her 6th kitten :-) (she smiles at me as proud as she can be)
Me(I thought she only had 3 cats where did the other two go?)
Girl - Mom I want a kitten Please lets go buy a kitten.
Mom - Bye :-) (Off to buy the 6th kitten)

Wow, what are we teaching our young people today!
That kitten will have a good life for the next few months but then what?
Thank God she hasn't decided to "like" puppies to!

OMG! THESE people are the reason there are so many strays on the street!

    Ugh. Stupid people. ~

We are teaching our young people instant gratification. Instant messaging, instant e-mail, instant txt, TV your way (Tivo/DV-R and internet). There is no need to exercise patience in today's world because technology allows us to do things faster, or at the same time as something else.

I am a child born of one and raised in another. I know what I've gained at the expense of what I've lost. The great things about dogs is they have no concept of time (especially Shiba's) and they teach you patience.

They are great teachers, but only to those that are capable of learning.

Wise words. I hope I'm not indulgent like that if I ever decide to "contribute" to our population.

Hmm... Bella does not know what the word patience means. She definitely has a concept of time when it comes to what she wants! When she wants something, she wants it NOW. But she has taught ME patience, understanding, and compassion. And I know that she will wait for me to come home for hours at a time (I know this because Eric is always telling me stories of her sitting by the door peeping out the window waiting for me to come home). She will also cuddle with me all day if I am not feeling well. I once had a cat that would do that also, so it is not confined to just the canine species.

That mother ought to be ashamed of herself for allowing her child to be like that. It would be the same as me saying that I only like babies and when they turn into toddlers, I will throw them outside and let them fend for themselves. (*Disclaimer, I would never throw a toddler outside... Unless it is onto a trampoline. And toddlers should only be allowed to fend for themselves during a nerfball fight.)

    lol Casey is a toddler-thrower! ;p ~

Osy! :) Haha. I say that because I used to toss my nephew when he was younger (2-3) onto the trampoline and let him bounce around. He got such a kick out of it. Too bad he is too old to be tossed around now. *sigh*

    lol :D

When I was really small all the family members use to throw me in the air & catch me.

Come to think of it...I think that's hwy I'm afraid of heights now D: ~

:s I'm feeling sick ... her mom is not helping her being a better human ...

Wait...so I'm not supposed to give away Spaz once he's in the terrible twos? But but..I only like babies *pout* I guess I'll have to keep him around longer now.
  • edited November -1
Nope, Rina... You are stuck with him. :) How have you been by the way?? And how is little Spaz?
  • edited November -1
So I am stuck with Elijah too??
Uh oh...no one told me that!
    HEY RINA!
  • edited November 2008
Darn I was hoping you wouldn't say that :P

I'm as fine as I can be. Spaz tried coming out 2 weeks ago so I'm stuck on bedrest trying to keep him in. Tis hard work laying around in bed doing nothing!

    ETA: Hey Rachael! :D
  • edited November -1
Yep, Rachael, you are stuck with Elijah, too. :)

Rina, glad to hear things are going well. But sorry that you are stuck on bed rest. I wondered why we had not seen you around lately! Tell Spaz to be patient. How far long are you?

(Sorry to hi-jack the poor kitty's thread!)

I'm 28 weeks, 12 more to go hopefully but I doubt he'll stay in the whole 40 weeks.

Lol it wouldn't be the Nihon Ken Forum if the threads didn't get jacked.

I can't remember, Rina. Did you pick out a name. Hmmm. Two boys...I betting on having a boy too, but won't know for a few weeks. Did Heidi have a boy too, I can't recall.
  • edited November -1
Yup, we picked out a name but we decided to keep it to ourselves until he's here. What are you hoping for? Heidi had a girl this time around though she does have a son too.

I'm thinking we need to make a pregnancy thread with all these preggers running around on the forum lol.
  • edited November -1
Don't care what the sex is. We are just hoping for one of each sex. I think it's likely seeing as his parent's and both grandparent's had a boy and then a girl and that's it. Hopefully, we'll follow suit.

Yes, we should start a prego thread, our babies are all due in a 6 month timeframe.

    Wow...

...this sounds like a great skit. It's too bad it came from a real life situation. Poor kittys. I love kits too, enjoy them while they are young and love them even more after they are mature and trained. I think my house will someday be over run by kittys again (I do not think one can have too many -grins-). Fiskars is 10 years of age and Mia is 4 years...they may be grown, but they still act very much like kits. -sighs- Perhaps someday this little girl will learn to appreciate older cats as well...maybe when she herself is older???

I remember when I was a "little girl", I loved my kittys even after they grew. I don't like getting "new" animals, unless I still get to keep, play and live with the "old" ones.
