I stay away from Petfinder. It's just too difficult for me...though I do still go on the pets section on Craigslist lol.

I try not to go on either too much - today on Craigslist for Georgia found a free akita - http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/927043345.html

    just breaks my heart.

Uggg. They are portraying that dog as a "stud dog" and mentioning how much you'd be able to sell his puppies for. Unbelievable. :-(

That's the reason why I don't like going on there.

petfinder is a dangerous site for me...

that akita - "if bread" - great.

I was just looking at the rest of the inquiries under pets besides the Akita, and some of those are terrible.

"Wanting to trade her bought her for a family member for x-mas but now they are not coming and i will not ship her she is to tiny ..she is 1.9lbs right now she will be very small she is ckc and i have all the paper work 4 you and her grandparent's are akc and her parent's also the people took her to the vet i got that also and i wanted to double check her so i also took her 2 day all clear she had all the work's so she will be ready ..i wouls like to trade her for something i want ...pug.long hair chi,york-chi/wawa, boston T,let me know soon cause i dont want to bond to much to the little one ...lol...thanks a bunch"

    Trading dogs? Last time I checked ... dogs weren't trading cards. v____v;

And i'm more amused by a rehoming fee on some of these dogs. "I can't take care of them anymore, but for a good home, i'll charge a rehoming fee of 350."
It's like 'I can't afford my pets anymore, or i'm too lazy to take care of them, so i'll sell them quick to make a few bucks.'

I just could never imagine trading OR charging a rehoming fee for a dog if I bought it for myself and owned it and cared for it. I get a new animal because I know I can afford them, because I know I am willing to hold onto them their whole lives, through anything.

    That's just sad Steph! :(

I just found Chloe's petfinder page!!!

Petfinder is such a great resource for adopting a dog, both for the potential owners and the rescues/shelters/etc. as there's so much exposure (this is where I found Remy). But I agree, its not something to look at if you aren't looking for a dog...just too sad.

Steph, that add is rediculous! Sometimes I wish there was a way to give someone a 'stupid' stamp right on their forhead in permanent ink...or maybe a virtual bitch-slap!

PS - hmm, trading cards eh? Anyone want to trade a veteran shikoku for a star rookie shiba and a first round draft pick?

PPS - Mr. Mann is a pretty cool name for a dog!!
  • edited November -1
Yeah Mike, that IS a great name isnt it!! We had two HUGE cats and they were named MR and MRS. heehee
  • edited November -1
Mike - For me it's not the sad aspect, more like..I want to bring them all home lol.
  • edited November -1
That's what I meant, its sad that you can't bring them all home

Aren't we past the trade deadline for this season Mike? (sorry, shouldn't joke about it...)

FYI we (meaning rescue groups) tell people to charge re-homing fees to discourage people who are
    a) looking for a bargain (if you cant pay $300 for a family member, dont get a dog)
b)dog fighters (if a dog isn't pit, they will at least use them as bait dogs, big dogs too)
c)medical researchers will always take free to good home dogs, and even pretend to be families because it is so much cheaper than buying research bred dogs.

You're probably right Dave, but you can't be too serious all the time right?
