I Have Nihon Ken Spam!!! :D [ SUPER high bandwidth ]

edited December 2008 in General
So You guys asked for it :p Just to warn, the photos aren't that great as the lighting there really sucks! I also was using the 70~300mm causing lots of handshake, so I had to bump the iso up all the way to 1600 to help counter that. *sigh* Ah well, better than nothing!

The videos are still uploading :)

Shiba! :D

Lol the one of the Judge "feeling" up the shiba cracks me up haha [ I didn't realize that's what I had taken a picture of til now ]

You got some really good shots. I've never seen a "local" dog show that didn't have crappy lighting.

Awesome shots. The dad Shiba definitley has some Shibatude!

Wow, great shots Osy! I love the Great Dane with the drool! HA HA..

Wow, those JA are gorgeous! Do you recall how they did? I feel like I've heard a bunch of times JA never fare well in a ring against AA.

I also really like the ACD (I think) pic. The one with a bit of brown on the face. Super cute!

Wow, look at the Akita head shots and notice the difference in their shape compared to each other, the ear shape and position and even the eye shape. Interesting.
  • edited November -1
Yeah, they're pretty different. Not to off-topic this, but it is kind of hard to understand why they're not two different breeds over there. I mean, the JA look a bit too stocky compared to what I'm used to getting here and I'm guessing that's to try and get them closer to the AAs so they can get better marks. No idea of it is that, but it's my take on it.

    Great job Osy!

Yeah, JA didn't stand a chance :( The male did well by himself, the female did well against one other AA, but when there were the 2 JA & 3 AA, the judge had each akita go around the ring by themselves, but had the JA go together :\

I don't think it's right that they can compare both to the same standard :(

The first 3 pictures of the Shiba are the 2 year old son, the two after that are of the father.

The pomeranian was TINY! But had amazing temperment. Also felt like I was petting an uber fluffy toy haha

The Samoyed was awesome! Also had amazing temperment & was close to getting his championship. He was so much fun to play with. He eally reminded me of a wolf :)

The pic of the Great Dane is my favorite, quality wise. Nice bokeh, methinks, & colours. But I hate the drool :o ~

Rui - They were both still young JA's, I wonder if that had anything to do with it? They're from this kennel. ~

Michael is a member, although not active lately, Osy.
The fact that they're still young only reinforces what I was thinking, IMO. Kuma is young and much much thinner that any of the two. So are pretty much any of Silvia's and Emilie's pups.

    I didn't know that! :p

    Good point though. ~

i was relooking at the Great Dane pics, man... they were at one point my favorite breed of dog... something I really really wanted, the harlequin markings too. They are just an impressive animal..
  • edited November -1
The Brindle Great Dane had the most GORGEOUS markings ever. He was a BIG boy too & SUCH a stud. I told his owner he looked just like a Tiger, & she said that was his name! lol He was trying really really hard to "befriend" a Doberman Girl ;) ~

Is the Shiba getting fondled on the table from Frerose kennels?

Cause, I recognize that handler from the show at Kutztown in Sept.

  • edited November -1
I have no idea Steph. I only got to speak to the female Breeder, the guy who owns tthe shiba getting fondled showed up quickly then left quickly :o ~
  • edited November -1
Oh & he was also the one that won :) ~
  • edited November -1
Ah yeah. He won @ Kutztown, too. He just came and left. Yup, that must've been Frerose Good Will Hunter, he's the #1 Shiba. :0

I love that second Red Akita. GORGEOUS.

And you're so right about the Daddy Shiba. He's stunning.

    Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful pics Osy! thanks! I too love great danes, though partially because of a book I read when I was little...But they are really magnificent animals. And there is a huge difference in the Akita's! I have only seen the AA in "real" life, and I was not really excited about the breed. I think i much prefer the JA.

I just love shiba faces. So cute. I love all of the pics, but the first is my favorite.
  • edited November -1
That American Akita looks like he really enjoys being fondled...Didn't realize how plushy the JA looks compared to the AA. The A kind of looks shepherdish
  • edited November -1
Great pictures Osy. I love the colors on the merle collies. The Sammy is good looking too.
  • edited November -1
That looks like a Frerose dog, but he sure is out of coat. I wonder if Ike has a chance against him...hmm. Nice pics, glad you met some nihon ken.

    Thanks Guys!

I really regret not buying / bringing a more suitable lens though. [ the 18 - 200 superzoom would've been perfect ] I missed a lot of shots of the dogs up close cause I was too lazy to swap lenses :x

    Next time! :) ~
