Favorite Dog~y Films?

edited December 2008 in General
What are some of your favorites featuring dogs? :)

Mine are...

Homeward Bound - The original is SUCH a classic! I remember watching it a million times when I was 5 haha Got to love how dogs [ & cats! ] show their loyalty.

Balto - Animated. The original is still so much fun to watch, & definitely touching when you think about the real medicine run.

Babe - I know the pig was the star, but when I was young I was more fascinated by the border collies. They were just stunning! :) The story is also super cute.

Beethoven - The original was SO funny. I particularly like when he's a puppy in the movie. All the slobber was super gross though :o

Eight Below - IMHO one of the best movies ever. My dad cries like crazy when he watches this film haha :)

I know Lassie Series isn't a film, but it's what sparked my love of dogs when I use to watch it. [ I was like 4 ] Me dad bought me a bunch of Collie toys that were super-lifelike and I remember when I saw a collie for the first time I was so ecstatic. :) ~

I liked Snow Dogs, It's the only movies the kids I was babysitting would watch and just calm down.

Im a sucker for any movie with Huskies....

    Eight Below was great.

There was a movie I saw a LONG time ago and it was called "To Dance With A White Dog". It was about an old widower who, after his wifes passing, keeps seeing this white dog. I don't remember the whole movie but I remember crying like crazy because the dog was his Soulmates soul coming back to check in on him...I should track that one down.

My favourite when I was a kid was Milo and Otis. I watched it over and over and over... And a few years ago, I even bought it on DVD. :)

And Eight Below is also one of my favourites! Even if it does have Paul Walker in it.

I forgot about All Dogs go to Heaven! Love that film :)

Fly Away home was cute :)

    Oliver & Company wasn't bad either. [ I loved the Dobermans ]

Osy! You have to watch it!!! It is awesome. It is about a pug and a kitten who become best friends and their adventures through life. (As told by a narrator, not the animals themselves.) It is definitely worth watching. :-D

"You call that a tail? This is a tail!"

I always think of Shibas during that part!

Also don't forget 101 Dalmatians and Lady and the Tramp. :) Those are cute animated films.

    Then they did sequels. D:

    The Fox and the Hound

    definately Homeward bound was great

Oh and do wolves count? If so here's some more good ones:
I really love Princess Mononoke and even though the wolves aren't the top character in the cast, they show up an awful lot.

Whitefang (even though he's half dog)

and even though it's a tv series, it did have a movie or two, "Wishbone"

Sequels almost always kill everything :(

Fox & the Hound = love <3 Though I liked the fox more than the hound xD

Princess Mononoke was cool, but I liked Totoro & Howl's Moving Castle better [ not dog related ] ~

I Am Legend is one of my favorite movies with a dog. While it is not really about the dog, the bond between owner and dog is great. The final scene with the dog though, ugh, I can't make it through that without crying.

Oh I forgot I am Legend. Dad HATES that film because of that scene. He was mad at me for a week cause I made him watch that film. [ after that scene he came out of his room in tears & was like "I hate this movie." ]

I torture my dad by making him watch Sad Dog films lol :o

Has anyone seen Iron Will? I;m wondering if it's good or not...~

oh god I can't watch where the red fern grows or old yeller! SO sad......

Lady and the Tramp is a great movie! That, 101 Dalmations and Aristocats were my fav disney flicks.

Best in Show is the best dog movie I own though. And Bringing Up Baby and The Awful Truth have cute dogs and Cary Grant, double whammy.

    Yay LJ!
I was beginning to lose all hope scrolling through these and not seeing "Where the Red Fern Grows".

I read the book as a child and was surprised to hear it made it to be a movie! It's a great story!

I kind of hope they turn Edgar Sawtelle into a movie. Is anyone reading/have read that?

Also, is anyone planning on seeing Marley and Me? i haven't read that yet.

I read Marley & Me and laughed and cried - great book.

Bringing up Baby is favorite movie of all time!

I've never seen Where the Red Fern Grows, only read the book. That's a tough one to get through also.

I remember enjoying Iron Will when I was 12, but I haven't seen it in years.

I had difficulty with The Yearling, also.

I don't think I've seen Iron Will...I remember reading White Fang.

Best in Show is really funny! Jen, did you also watch A Mighty Wind? It was done by the same people (although not a dog movie).

I read Marely & Me, but I am not so sure that I will watch the movie. The characters they chose for the movie really disappointed me. But we shall see.

I like som eof the ones that were already mentioned, so I'm only going to add the ones that weren't:

Call of the wild (the version without Rick Schroeder and the GSD) I don't know if they named that film exactly like the book, I caught it once on TV a few years ago. It's one of those flukes that they show once or something. I searched imdb and only found the Rick Schroeder one. The one I'm talking about has a Leonberger on the role of Buck. It's also my favourite book.

Benji the Hunted, where Benji has to rescue 4 baby pumas after he gets to this desert island. Pretty cool without many words in it.

Black Beauty (there is an animated version and a lot of real image ones)- Love the book too.

    Jaws!

    Gorillas in the Mist

    The Lion King

And not a filme, but a TV show - Littlest Hobo

Oops, misread it as animal films. Anyways, disregard my non dog ones
