Blood Feathers & Osy's Face
Well, the night before last I couldn't sleep so I was up until about 6 am. Around 5.30 am the cockatiels all had night fright [ when birds get freaked out at night and start thrashing around the cage. ]
Birds have something called blood feathers. Some of the larger feathers in their wings contain blood, [ a vein & an artery, I think ] & if one of these feathers breaks at the quill the bird can bleed to death if you don't pull the feather out. [ pulling the feather out stops the bleeding ]
Well, I heard the birds flapping around in their cages so I went & examined each of them. Misa was the last one, however, he was still frightened & flapping like crazy so when I opened the door to the cage...WHAM! I got a face full of blood He has good aim since he was still two feet from me haha.
Well I pulled the broken blood feather out & he was fine, but I've never had a face full of blood before. It dried super quickly & was a pain to clean off. [ it also got into my eyelashes so I was still picking blood out the next morning ]
Thought it made for a random anecdote, so I snapped a shot of my face before I washed it. You can't see from the pic but a lot of it was on my right eyelid.
& Here's the brat that caused the trouble; [ old video ]~

Poor birdies. Thankfully my birds never had blood feathers, though normally birds pluck the broken feathers on their own.
You guys keep talking about how it's like a scary movie, are you talking about my face or the blood? lol ~
