Bakers chocolate is the most deadly, followed by dark, than milk. If he had only a little bit I would just keep an eye on him. You can always call animal poison control

"As the premier animal poison control center in North America, the APCC is your best resource for any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you think that your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, make the call that can make all the difference: (888) 426-4435. A $60 consultation fee may be applied to your credit card."

I have used them a number of times and swear by them.

thank you thank you thank you! I was looking for exactly that contact but my Internet and phones are out due to the tornadoes today and that leaves me with just the iPhone. I'm keeping an eye on him & will call if starts acting funny. Thank you so much, jessica!

I had a dog once that ate a giant hershey kiss (the big ones from valentines), she was fine, runny poop for the evening but not acting funny or throwing up.

Best be safe than sorry though, I have the poison hotline right under the police number next to the phone :)

Last year, Moto and Piglet ate 2 DOZEN chocolate chip cookies (dark chocolate)at the vets suggestion we gave them hydrogen peroxide. Nothing happened, we administered a second dose. Still, nothing. We went to the emergency vet. They administered some drug (vet techs on the forum could probably tell me what it is called) through their eyes. STILL nothing. We had to have them monitored overnight. $800 later, all that happened was my pups pooped pecans.

It could have been so much worse, and they could have died, luckily all I got was a huge vet bill and a story.

Apomorphine is used to induce vomiting and can be given as an eye drop.

Syrup of Ipecap is still my favorite, but holy smokes watch out if you give H2O2 to a dog that just ate something-barf!

It is FOAMY too! When Moto and Piglet ate a wheel of cheese and a nut sampler we gave peroxide and the vomit was (for lack of a better word) amazing...

Wow, Jess, Moto and Piglet liked to get into things huh?

That was Moto's raison d'etre. He once climbed onto the BACK of my kitchen counter (remember this is a shiba inu, he was only 25lbs) and he and Miko ate an entire chicken carcass in under 5 minutes...

    Oh the mayhem...

LOL, the picture I just made up in my head made me laugh hysterically. I can just see Moto on top of the counter with a chicken leg in his mouth while pushing chicken off the counter for Piglet...ha ha ha.

My Husky jumped on the counter once and grabbed the turkey leg off our Thanksgiving dinner.

great link Rui! I have that saved as a favorite when Kitsu or Tsuki or.. I can't remember who... ate a nutty bar. The amounts/calculations on that are very accurate per my vet.

Thanks so much guys! Kouda is fine, clearly. It was one square of Ghiralderi (or however you say it) milk chocolate. Clearly I was over-reacting. But, hey. First-time parent! :p

Some dogs seem to be immune to the effects of chocolate. Our mini dachshund once ate an entire jumbo bar of dark chocolate with no ill effects. I was really looking forward to that chocolate too. >_>
