LJ: can you help out?

edited January 2009 in General
LJ, I hate to do this, but do you think you could take the reigns on the t-shirt and calendar? I feel like an ass dumping this off, but I'm buried under a pile of time critical work right now and I have almost no spare cycles to devote to it.

What remains to be done is organizing the submissions so the committee members can filter them, and then putting up a pole for the general population to vote. Would you be willing to help out? I'd really appreciate it!

Sure - I'll get started on it tomorrow.

Thanks LJ! You are a life saver. I've been feeling really bad about not being able to get to it, and there's no end in sight for me right now. I owe you at least one. :-)

No worries - this is kind of a slow time for me right now, so it's the least I can do.

Okay - good news, bad news.

Bad News - SurveyMonkey.com only allows 10 active questions in a survey. Each image counts as a question and that's without an actual question.

Good news - I've got all the images (lo-res version) loaded onto photobucket.

Here's my thoughts. Number each submission - have people whisper their choices (20 total) to me. Compile the data.

It would look something like this:

Directions for picture selection.
Select your top 20 photos (by number) and whisper those selections to ljowen123. The deadline to submit your choices is January 16, 2009, 11:00 PM Eastern.

Jesus, I didn't realize we had so many submissions!

There are some tricks you can play with survey monkey to get around the number of question restrictions. For example, if you recall the forum survey, all of the "strongly agree" ... "strongly disagree" questions were lumped into one. If you like, I can take a minute or two to figure out how to make it work.
• edited November -1
I was able to do some multiples within a question, like Use this photo? Yes or No and then a Select Month, with the 12 listed. When you upload a photo, you can put in a description, but not a comment field. So you have to ask a second questions, which gives us 194 (Kristin has to resubmit her photos) questions.

If you can figure a way around it, that would be great.

Can you give me you survey monkey account and password? Or is it set to a password you care about?

Ok, this would be my suggestion. I would make the survey only 1 question long. Do a "matrix of choices" question where the options are "yes" and "no" only. Then put in 93 lines for each of the photos. We'll create a thread on the forum with each of the 93 photos listed with numbers like you have them above. We'll instruct people to open a new window to take the survey so they can refer back to the photos.

How does that sound?

works for me!

Okay, here we go:

Click Here to select which photos to use in the Forum Calendar

I'll let you come up with the wording and we should be good to go.

Great! One minor comment...asking people if they want to help pick the months won't help much because its anonymous. :-/

Otherwise, I think its perfect. We'll just have to make the link open in a new window and we'll have to instruct people to select at most 30 (or whatever). Sound good?
• edited November -1
I was just wanting to know if people wanted to be involved on that level or let someone else do the rest.

I'm assuming you know the code for making it open in another window?
• edited November -1
yep: link

Do you want to have it open to all or just committee members? I'll let you decide on that - also, do you want me to post it or would you rather?

Alright, here is the text:

After many requests, the survey for the Forum Calendar is available.

Below is a link that will open a new window to the survey. Please keep this window open as well so that you can still see the images you are voting for. Once the survey closes, we’ll have the results posted for you. Please narrow your selections to 24.

Click Here to select which photos to use in the Forum Calendar

The deadline to complete the survey is January 16, 2009, 11:00 PM Eastern.

Looks great to me! I would open it up to everybody since there isn't anything particularly offensive in there. And please, you did all the work, you should be the one post it. :-)
• edited November -1
Were there any private submissions on the shirt designs? If so, send them to me via email and I'll get that one done this weekend, too.
• edited November -1
Oh, yeah, just one. I'll email it now.
