Kennel Family : Training Assistence possible?

edited January 2009 in General
Hey guys!

Yesterday I had a crazy idea! For my animal training education i have to do some assistence at dog schools, breeders or other institutions which are working with animals. I did some research here in Austria and found some institutions which are interesting, but they are not perfect. Then i thought about what place would be really really perfect - > The Kennel Family in Japan! (breeding Shikokus, at least one person speaks german, Japaaaann!!! :)etc.) There is so much i could learn from them. About breeding, training their dogs, socialisation and how the business works. It would be astonishing.

Are there any members in this forum who are connected to the Kennel Family? I dont want to write them an email, like: Hi guys, i want to visit you! Please teach me everything you know. I think this would be a little bit rude. But perhaps if there is a person who has the possibility to introduce me to them, i wll have a chance to make this idea coming true.

Just some basic infos:
working for free,
staying for 2 weeks or perhaps longer
dont care about cleaning up, making myself dirty etc
just need a place to sleep and something to eat - could pay for it
March!!!is coming soon but i have found some cheap tickets

What are you thinking about this? :) Do you know somebody, who could help me?, or is there something negative to mention???

Thx for all your answers :)

ok im soooo silly... i found a homepage of a breeder with many dogs and i thought that kennel is their family name...

another missunderstanding from my side... the kennel i mentioned is the Akashima Kennel in Canada.. not japan..i only read Akashima and thouth they would be located in japan..what a good start :)

ok lets do it the other way around.. do you know breeders who are willing to let me stay for some weeks?

i just found another interessting breeder-family the Van Veghel's from Holland..this would be Europe even better for me... do you know anything about them? positive or negative things?

the same goes for the Akashima Kennel... does anybody has experiences with them?

or do you know some japanese Kennels???

    :)

    baba yours

    Hallo! Willkommen!

lol, ja..."kennel" ist wie "Zwinger" aber auf Englisch. Mein Deutsch ist nicht sehr gut, aber da kann ich ein bisschen sprechen und verstehen (am meistens). Katja ist Zuechter von Akashima. She is fantastic! She might let you stay if she has extra space. You will have to write her or call her and ask. For sure she'll let you go over to visit and play with the Shikoku (and Shiba). She will share her experiences with you as well. Probably be the more ideal place to go as she has the most Shikoku. So that you will be able to meet a lot of them. Also, she comes from Germany so it'll be easier for both of you to communicate, since I believe German is her first language -wink-.

Though, Japan would be fun, I don't know of any breeders that would allow you to stay at their house. It is usually better to go visit many breeders and their dogs and learn from each one.

I think Katja will be your best bet, don't worry go ahead and call her. I think calling will be better, otherwise you may have to wait a while before you get e-mail reponse (she gets a lot of e-mail!). Katja is super friendly and very inviting, so if she has the time she will be more then happy to help you out. Find out what she might be able to do for you.

Good luck with your project! If you need anything else, let me know.

I think you would have to have an inside connection in order to actually be allowed to live at a shikoku kennel in Japan, which is not to say that's impossible and they wouldn't be willing to share their information for the betterment of the breed, but it would be easier if you already new someone first hand or know someone with good connections who speaks Japanese and can broker such a special request. I bet you would have more luck initially at least visiting and chatting with a shikoku breeder in the US/Canada/Europe, there are not so many cultural barriers for you and perhaps they would know of someone who could help with the Japanese part.

thx lindsay for your answer... speaking of the language barrier.. my boyfriend is japanese.. and im trying to learn a little bit through daily life...but he and his family is from Hokkaido.. and they dont know any breeders..but at least he could be a translater :)

uh woow Corina, nice german!! :) thx for the tip with Katja! I will definitly ask her!! just have to find out her telephonenumber and email :)wonnt be a problem cause i think i can find this info on her homepage!

oh and the tickets for the flight... i hope i can find cheap ones.. dont have sooo much extra money.. cause of this i will look also for some european breeders... Canada would be great, and Katja's dogs are looking faboulus but if i can find something comparable much nearer i should consider them too...

Do you know about some european breeders?

    Thx a lot

oh and i shouldnt forget little Sophie... 2 or more weeks without me would be very hard, cause my boyfriend is working full time...so i have to take her with me.. and theres much difference between a flight to Canada and to somewhere in Europe... exspeacially when she has to stay wtihout me in this "extraroomsfordogsnearthecargohold"

or are there some other regulations on long-distanceflights??
