My parents have tried a few times to get our cat declawed, but the store I worked at -- in the contract with our cat purchase, we signed and agreed that we would not declaw our cat. My cat is ruining the furniture, but my parents never bother to train him, they usually just yell at him or get up and spook him ( though, this is why my cat is all nerves, hates people and is jumpy ).

When a cat is declawed, they remove the toes, and the front paws also have scent glands. So, when declawed, cats scent glands in the front are removed and most older cats that are declawed have no other means of marking territory and usually resort to peeing everywhere. Normally declawing brings even worse behavior ( hell, you'd turn into a bitch if someone cut off your fingers and called it a day ).
