does ur shiba have a weak/sensitive stomach?

Hey all,

i noticed both my shibas have pretty sensitive stomachs.
they both tend to get diarrhea easily, the slightest change in treats or if they ate some grass in the park.
ive had both of them checked by the vet, each time the results came back negative, vet told me they are healthy and he cant find anything wrong with them, perhaps they just have really sensitive stomachs.
do your shibas have this prob too?

The only issues I've had with Tosca in that department is when she eats random leaves off of plants in the yard. Then she'll get sick, look sick, mope for a while, and then go back out and eat more miscelanious foliage. I'm trying to get her to understand that the term "field greens" doesn't include every green from every field. That being said, I had heard a lot about shibas having weak stomachs before I got one. Allergies were also mentioned to me more than once.

Our 1.5y/o female Tsuki has sensitivity to cooked/processed beef and filler grains (corn, soy, wheat, etc). She has a full out allergy to cooked/processed chicken. Not only in her kibble, but also in treats and chews that are chicken flavored or based.

We found harmony by giving them a combo diet of raw foods, some cooked foods and a grain free fish based kibble (wellness core ocean).

Its possible one or both of your shibas can't handle the protein in their food (chicken, beef, etc) or they have a hard time digesting filler grains - as most dogs do.

Bella has an allergy to corn and will have terribly loose stools if she has anything with corn in it. If she has it for a long period of time (3-4 days in a row), she gets very itchy. You may want to check the ingredients in the treats and food that you are giving your pups. I think a lot of Shibas have an intolerance, if not an outright allergy, to grains.

Once we switched Bella to a grain free food, it was only a matter of days before she stopped itching and her stools became regular. Switching her over to the new food (we feed Solid Gold's Barking at the Moon), it was like she was a new her! Everything became more consistent, her stools, her energy level, her coat, and even her smell. (for a while, she smelled kind of funky because of the allergy)

Sachi can eat almost anything. She's my little garbage disposal. If she has anything with to much flour she will get constipated, so I get grain free food and treats also.

Niko has a stomach of steel. Chad makes sure she approves of all he eats much to my dismay and scolding. I must say the bacon grease was not a good idea as it lead to shiba 500 squirts all over my dining room carpet.

YES! Kelly.. man oh man.. she throws up from eating grass. I really dont know what to do here, i know that grass are supposed to be good for dogs, but she will threw it up (only about 30% of the time). i have gotten this checked up too and they came back negative as well. I think i have spent over 100$ on unnecessary check ups because they turned out to be nothing.

she doesnt get diahrea much however. i feed her holistic eagle pack for main food and i feed her dog wells for treats.

Evo is an all life stages food so it is fine for puppies.

Koji hasn't shown any real sensitivity to different foods, and I have fed him foods with grain and grain-free, and many different protein sources. But I have always avoided feeding anything that I consider unhealthy or junk, like food or treats containing corn or wheat. Never vomited or had diarrhea so far.

BTW, vomitng from eating grass is not that uncommon among different breeds of dogs. So I wouldn't attribute his vomiting to having a sensitive stomach.

Kojichan is right about the grass. In fact often when dogs have upset stomachs they will eat a lot of grass to make themselves throw up.
