Small brag - obedience win

Small brag here.

I took Kuma to a Dog Training Club match last night. I had taken him once before as an 8 month old, where he did okay, but not great (a bit distracted). Now at 16 months, he concentrates much better through the distractions.

We did pre novice, so all onlead but still judged very strict like novice. Anyway, we WON our match, which had about 8 dogs (against shelties, rotweillers, labs, collies, etc) with a 196.5 (a very good score). Pretty good for a Nihonken (Shikoku).

We only lost a few points in the figure 8 and the fast heeling for a bit of lagging. But got perfect scores for the down and sit stays, the recall and fronts. Yeah! :-)

He won a ribbon, a nice tumbler glass and a St Patty's Day bandana.

Wow! I think that deserves a BIG brag! :-P

That is definitely awesome that he beat out a breed (or two) that is known for obedience. Way to go, Kuma (and Kris)!

    Kris,
Congratulations to both you and Kuma. Truth be told, your obedience training efforts (and success) are what have really fueled my aspirations to get a Shika within the next 5 years.

Now surely you have SPAM of the boy with his ribbon, bandana, and tumbler glass!

Ah, thanks everyone for the congratulations! I was quite happy as it was an excellent outing for our first attempt in 10 months (and excellent 2nd attempt). Kuma does love doing the obedience and offers it up on his own, so he is a fun pupil because he loves it.

Jesse - what a nice comment! I am glad that you liked my obedience video. Here is the SPAM you requested! :-)

Congrats to Kuma on the fantastic win! Cute pic flanked by the cats --- they look a little in awe of their winnin' brother (not so much! Cats can be so "c-r-ool")!

All kidding aside, Kuma is georgeous, and seems like you and he put in the hard work to earn a much-deserved win!
