Kaddy, how is your new pup? i never had a rescue dog before...r u finding you need to do lots of rehabilitation?
I worry I will not be skilled enough to figure out and work with a dog with issues :(

Loki is actually amazing. He's potty trained, doesn't like to chew on anything that's not a toy (other than Keiko) and listens REALLY REALLY well. I feel like we got lucky considering how well behaved he is, not to mention he's so lovable and thinks he's a lap dog. I also worried that I wouldn't know how to handle the really special cases (which Loki isn't)- although I was willing to give it my best shot because I knew I had an amazing online community ready and willing to help me every step of the way!

Rescuing a dog isn't more difficult than raising a puppy. It is just different. I have rescued severely abused dogs and had no problems. My current rescue baby Piglet has a past that would make your blood curdle and she is the brightest shining light in my life. We have had a few issues to work past. I personally think in many ways it CAN be easier. I find puppies to be maddening. Miko was my first puppy. She is perfectly healthy (knocking on wood), and has a fabulous temperament. However I would still say Piglet WITH her issues is easier.

Moto was a rescued shiba, with an abuse history, and he demonstrated no issues.

Really your best bet is to go meet the dogs. If there is a dog that is supposed to be yours, that dog will let you know. Sounds hokey, but you will know what I mean when it happens.
