Playdate Spam (and the aftermath!)

Ryu and Roxy got to go over to their buddy Denali's house yesterday for a playdate. Ryu woke up in a MOOD yesterday but Denali didn't take any of his crap. It was awesome.

Enjoying some rawhide:

Thanks Beth! I'm not proud of that picture (sans makeup and just cried through Marley and Me) but thanks for the compliment! :)

Wow, Pam great spam! I love Roxy laying with her feet between the couch and the ottoman!

    I <3 Ryu...

That last picture is adorable. :) Roxy has this 'look' on her face that seems to say, 'yes, i am beautiful, yes, take pictures of me!'

I thought the same thing Casey! She's such a ham, just like her brother :)

Kristin - join the club, Ryu has many admirers :)

Ha! they didn't have a choice! I was bawling through the end of Marley and Me and clutching the both of them by my side, wiping my eyes with their fur LOL

super cute! I'm glad they all get along with rawhides, too!

Roxy's face is much more feminine than Ryu's, how adorable!

I tried to explain my reaction to my roommates (who love Ryu (and beginning to appreciate Roxy) but have never owned a dog before) -

it's not the movie itself - it's the fact that Ryu and Roxy are the closest thing I have to children and when I think of the day when I wake up and they aren't there... it's impossible for me not to get hysterical. I think any of us dog owners would feel the same way. To people who don't have the pleasure of sharing their lives with an animal, it is just a movie. But to us, it hits too close to home. And though I've seen it multiple times in the 4 days that I've owned the movie, I will cry every time. Poor puppies will just have to be my kleenex : )

I've heard about the end of Marley and Me, not sure I want to watch it. We have another thread on here talking about dog related movies. I think it gets to most of us when we see something happen to a dog in a movie.

I read the book beforehand and still couldn't handle it. But then again, I cry at some commercials. LOL

I cry at commercials all the time. Or when Im in my car and a song comes on. I can't help it...I CRY!

I read Marley and Me (And cried), still haven't seen the movie. Not ready to open those floodgates yet!

The book made me cry more than the movie did. I went to see the movie at the theatre, and that was a HUGE mistake. I did not even have tissues with me (we went to see it on a whim).

But Brandon, you should definitely read the book, then watch the movie. It is definitely a great story.

I agree - I prefer the book, but then again, most of the time I do :)

Kristin - I used to cry so much that my mom sent me to a therapist in high school for being so sensitive LOL. I remember a Chase credit card commercial that still brings tears to my eyes hahaha

the freaking wikipedia page about the Marley and Me book made me cry!

(also have read the book, and "Merle's Door" is better)

I'm not much of a crier, but I sobbed while reading the book. I watched the movie using Jazz as my pillow. She kept trying to lick me to tell me it was ok.

I can't watch ABC's Makeover: Home Edition because I go into hysterics. Also most Hallmark commericals.

Pam, are you sure we aren't sisters?

See... I started reading Merle's Door but I keep getting bored. I tend to skim the parts about all the research and technical stuff... I'm definitely more of a "story" kind of gal LOL but now that you say it's good, I'll have to bring it back out of the bookcase....
  • edited November -1
oh! well, yeah there was the technical, and of course most of it I don't really buy (like the ages of our ancestors, and wolf pack hierarchy theories) but they help piece their learning about the other species throughout the book and make the end that much better..

It was a pretty scientifically good read though.

We must be!! Extreme Makeover Home Edition use to be my FAVORITE show! I would cry through every episode though. I even got to volunteer for the house in Hawaii and got a pic with Ty!

    OMG! I love TY!

They did a house in Martinez, CA which was like 5 miles from where I lived. I went to see the taping and the house being built, but no one cool was on site at the time. BOOO..

My best friend (the one in the first picture) was the head of this program named "Blue Star Card" for Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation there in Hawaii. Basically, while your spouse is deployed while stationed in Hawaii, you are eligible to receive this "blue star card" and you get to do lots of cool stuff like attend monthly plays at the Army theatre for free, get a certain number of childcare hours for free, and loads of other stuff. They held monthly "Countdown to Redeployment" events to attend - we would get free massages, see comedians, etc.

Anyway, she and I loved the show so much that we skipped out on work to go visit the worksite one day. While we were there, we asked around about how to volunteer. We said that we could get about 10-15 deployed wives out there to lend a hand if they needed it. So, in a 24 hr period, she was able to round up a group of gals to volunteer the next day. (She's beyond awesome and headed this entire program on her own and at only 26 yrs old!) Get a bunch of lonely, patriotic wives together on an ABC function, and you've got press clamoring to get a shot of us and the cast. Needless to say, it was a great day!

I totally just hijacked my own thread! LOL

    Great spam, Pam!
Ryu had to work some real magic on that rawhide, it was pretty big. Roxy between the ottoman and the sofa is hilarious!

I didn't like Marley and Me much, but a few tears went down my face and my throat had a knot the size of a bowling ball.
Though I'd be pretty screwed if I cried at commercials, LOL!

Awwwww Pam: Your doggies are just adorable, not to mention the visitor! And you too, or would the word be beautiful or georgeous!!! You recovered well from the tears!

I haven't seen the "Marley" movie... I think I will have to watch it with my sis-in-laws sometime at a family gathering... we can have a "group" cry then! They are all the same as me! (I think its more than that post-menopausal reaction --- more a love of doggies and other sentients!)

Say, thanks for the "hijacking" too. So interesting to hear about the energy in folks to volunteer! And what a great way to take your mind off missing and worrying about your spouse while doing good for others! Looks like it was lot of fun, too!

    Take care,
